Usually not if you watch the whole thing: most theaters have a cut-off policy for refunds after the first half-hour or so.

Side note: I would love to talk to former theater managers and find out which movie they gave out the most refunds for

My mom & pop theater does all the time but I only got a refund from Love Guru and Battleship but those were around the 30min mark so you might be right.

I wouldn't ask for one even if it was offered, because when a movie is so bad that I hate it, I figure paying the full freight gives me the right to tell as many people as I can to save their money and time. I realize I was probably hyperbolizing a little bit in my last post, but "Chappie" was terrible.

And given that this is the "Star Wars Episode 7" thread, I'll try to get back on track here by saying how happy I am I have my tickets for opening weekend (a 9am Sunday showing with reserved seating!).

The theater has to offer it. A lot AMC theaters have been remodeled recently and offer it, Cinemark offers it for the XD theaters evening showings.

I live in the greater Portland, OR area and there is a small chain of theaters called Cinetopia. Online ticketing allows you to pick your seat (from what's available, hence the 9am on Sunday showing for me because there were good seats still left), or when you buy your ticket at the box office they show you a map of available seats, and then you choose.

Its only for those theaters that offer it. Before we moved, i never had the opportunity to buy theater seats that had reservations. Now, it's the only way i buy my seats. Reserved seating, in a bistro setting (dinner ), is a very nice way to experience a movie outing. No waiting in line to give yourself the best opportunity to get the best seats, and no need to go early to a restaurant to eat dinner before you see the film of choice.

We did have to wait until Sunday as well to get our good seating, but it will be worth it.

That's the thing, everyone assume Star Wars culture is like our own. It's not. Furthermore, whose to say any of the people in the galaxy CARE about history? There's millions of kids in the U.S. Who could tell you the presidents before George W Bush, let alone the history of Navy seals in the U.S. Post 2001. (That's about as good of a comparison as I could think of for Jedi, lol.)

Unless the Empire went to great lengths to remove them from the history databanks.

I almost walked out 45 minutes in, but then my "trooper mentality" of staying all the way through because I paid for it kicked in.
Ouch!

I'm hopeful that his version of Alien isn't poor.

Anyone know what the supposed runtime of this film will be? I hope it pushes 3 hours of glorious fantasy escapism!

That's odd I saw it listed as 140 minutes, maybe there is a four minute Jar Jar scene in IMAX theaters only.

re: Aftermath:

I read the book twice, to try to make sense of it. They have all these "interludes" that don't take place anywhere near the main story so for the first half of the book I had no idea what was going on as there were a zillion characters (the interludes are basically unattached short stories, plus the 3 groups from the main story not being in the same place).

So I re-read it and the second time I read all the interludes first, then read the main story all the way through and it made a lot more sense. You get a sense of how the empire rebuilt itself and how one group of "rebels" got together. Nothing specifically connectable to the movies, but a decent Star Wars book.

If anyone is interested and hasn't started the book yet, I'd highly advise reading the interludes separately from the main story.
