Default Netflix's "The Punisher" (Season 2)

Marvel planning Moon Knight, Punisher, Deathlok and Spider-Woman Netflix series?

Quote:
An unnamed source “close” to the situation has informed us that for Marvel’s next slate of Netflix shows, they’re going dark – very dark. The source says that in 2018/2019, you can expect the following shows for Netflix:

2018: Moon Knight with Bushman as the main villain
2018: The Punisher with JIGSAW as the main villain
2019: Deathlok with Fixer as the main villain
2019: Spider-Woman with Madame HYDRA as the main villain

This could make sense for a number of reasons. Fans have been clamoring for a Moon Knight series for a while now and with Netflix established for Marvel’s darker properties, they could finally have a place for it. Frank Castle is appearing on Season 2 of Daredevil, so by 2018, he’ll already be established. Deathlok has already appeared on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Spider-Woman is fair game and by 2019, Spider-Man will have already been established in the MCU, which would be why I could see them wanting to capitalize on a similar character for the female audience.

Blade has been thrown around as of late, and could end up being how Moon Knight is introduced into Marvel’s shared universe. I’m a little surprised that Blade or Ghost Rider weren’t announced as shows but I guess we’ll have wait and see what happens. I’d be expecting a name drop or some type of appearance in any of the shows.

Don’t expect this to be true yet untill Marvel actually confirms it.

Our source (who first gave us a heads up about Marvel planning a Moon Knight series) has informed us that Marvel is considering replacing the Iron Fist series that was initially planned with a Punisher series. When I asked for some elaboration, this is what I received:

Marvel can’t quite seem to figure out how to put Iron Fist into the equation and time is running out. They’re very pleased with Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of Frank Castle for Season 2 of Daredevil and know that the fans have a great appreciation for the character. They also know that a Punisher series would be much cheaper and more marketable. They have a contract with Netflix and have to do something. It appears that for this phase of shows, time is running thin for Iron Fist.

Interestingly enough, that original story did say that Marvel was at least talking about a Punisher series.

I’d advise taking this news with a grain of salt – but it could make sense. From what I’ve gathered, Marvel is having trouble finding a showrunner for Iron Fist and that all of the pitches that they’ve received are nothing that they can really work with. There have also been many rumors that the TV side of Marvel is getting a “shake up” with recent changes in the creative department (Inhumans).

If Marvel is looking to go really dark, the transition could make sense. Daredevil was “hard PG-13” and from the looks of it, Jessica Jones is going to be darker than that. What better way to make a statement in that sense than to make a series for Punisher and Moon Knight?

The only thing I’m skeptical about is how this would fit into their plans for The Defenders? I mean, a series for The Punisher wouldn’t mean that he would be replacing Iron Fist in the Defenders lineup, but I guess we’ll see.

Awesome! Hopefully Netflix gets Garth Ennis to write or whichever for the series.
The Jessica Drew top-heavy Spider-Woman with the red and gold? This preferred design on the right, obviously.

I'm not too surprised that there's difficulty translating Iron Fist to the small screen. I was impressed with how the MCU managed to visualize Scarlet Witch's (incredibly) vague comic powers but I would imagine budget would get in the way of a lot of Rand's powers. Still, I think they could get creative and rely heavily on some incredible fight choreography like in Daredevil.

While Iron Fist is the series that had me the most interested after DD and I don't know how it would affect the plans for the Defenders, a Punisher series could be awesome. Bernthal is an great actor and I would love for them to connect it to that off-hand joke the Russo's made about the Punisher having a "cameo" in Winter Soldier.

Netflix is thisclose to pulling the trigger on The Punisher, a new Marvel spinoff series centered on Jon Bernthal’s gun-toting Daredevil vigilante (aka Frank Castle), TVLine has learned exclusively.

Viewers will get their first look at Bernthal’s Punisher when Daredevil ‘s second season drops on Friday, March 18, but the early buzz on the Walking Dead alum’s performance is overwhelmingly positive.

“Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people to second-guess themselves,” previewed exec producer Doug Petrie in a recent interview with EW.com. “Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t.”

For those keeping track at home, this would mark Netflix’s sixth Marvel series, following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, the upcoming Luke Cage, and the in-the-works Iron Fist and The Defenders.

Reps for Netflix and Marvel declined comment.

I'm happy that this is likely happening. I just hope things won't get too crowded and we still get more seasons of Jessica Jones (I haven't read anything one way or the other for that yet).

I wonder if Iron Fist might become the Marvel TellTale game series instead?

Iron First is definitely getting a TV Series. There were rumors of problems early on, but Netflix has since said it is on track, hired a showrunner, and put out casting notices for the main characters, on top of having met with potential actors to play Danny Rand. It's not becoming a video game.

Post Netflix's "The Punisher"

Quote:
Marvel's The Punisher spin-off ordered by Netflix

It’s official: The Punisher is getting his own TV series.

EW has learned that Marvel has ordered a spin-off starring vigilante character introduced in Daredevil season 2.

Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as vengeful military veteran Frank Castle, who brings his own lethal form of justice to Hell’s Kitchen.

Writer and executive producer Steve Lightfoot (Hanniba, Casualty) will serve as showrunner.

Marvel’s The Punisher marks the sixth series ordered (so far) as part of the collaboration between Netflix and Marvel Television, including the upcoming Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the ensemble miniseries The Defenders – along with Jessica Jones and the aforementioned Daredevil. (And in case you’re wondering, as we are, whether Bernthal’s character will also be added to The Defenders lineup, that’s not yet clear – though it seems likely he’ll at least pop in for an appearance.)

Word that Netflix was working on a potential Punisher spin-off was first reported by TV Line last summer. Netflix and Marvel are expected to publicly announce the project later Friday. Here is the first teaser image for the new series:
