The Matrix totally ripped it off. They even reused some of the sets.
It's been a long time since I've watched the Matrix. What sets were reused?

I wouldn't say the Matrix ripped it off at all. They both have similar themes. Matrix took it in a more sci-fi direction while Dark City went noir/mystery. They're both great movies.

I'd suggest a rental. It's not an "action" movie, but it's a great slow burner that I really like.

Tower's prices actually fluctuare a lot, I picked up the Watcher in the Woods on SD for $13.89 four days ago and today it is $12.86. I'm not really going to complaint since I got Transformers at the dollar cheaper price, but with Tower, if you find you're right price, don't wait and buy it immeidately,

I had heard of the title for a long time and just picked it up on Blu' 2 weeks ago. It's a film noir style sci-fi that can, if you so choose, point to some pretty interesting metaphors. I haven't seen the regular theatrical version but this director's cut is extremely interesting and entertaining. I bought it for my older sister who's a huge sci-fi fan and while she hasn't gotten around to seeing it yet, I know her taste (sci-fi with a brain), I know she'll dig it.

The print itself is not reference material, one reason being the overall darkness of the film. That is, shadows greatly used and the film takes place almost entirely at night (there's a reason for that script-wise). I really liked it a lot and would reccomend it to any sci-fi fan or anyone who likes metaphors, parallels and makes you think enough to alter your POV on things.

While watching, it had a bit of a made-for-TV feel. It seemed cramped and low budget, with a very small feel to the city. I won't say any more on that...

But I bring this up because the Matrix story demanded much higher production values. And because of that, most people will say its a much better film. Maybe, maybe not, but Dark City is very interesting and maybe more challenging and complex than the Matrix.

I personally didnt see much of DC in the Matrix story, but whatever... I leave that to others to decide for themselves.

I would agree that DC should be rented, but $19 is a good deal b/c i think you'll want to watch it again after you give it some thought.

i remember going to the theatres to watch another movie (can't remember which but it was a popular flick) but we got to the theatres too late so we were like "whatever may as well watch something"

and wow it was such an awesome movie, a bit depressing (it was a dark rainy night in real life which already made the mood blegh) but anyway Awesome flick!

i was a bit taken aback after watching the matrix, i thought "are they kidding? how did they get away with ripping DC off? and hearing people call this one of the most original bestest movies ever? wt?"
