Default Do you have to stop yourself from buying movies?

Sometimes, I think I just want to buy a movie so I will have more to watch on Blu-ray. I have to stop myself and think am I really going to watch this? Sometimes I go to the store thinking I am going to buy a certain title and then stop myself. Do I really want it or do I think I need it? I swear sometimes it is like an addiction. Apparently some of you don't have a problem with buying almost everything When DVD first came out, I would look everywhere for DVDs and buy just about anything. I have My Best Friend's Wedding! I have never watched it! I probably never will! I got that back when a DVD was between $24 and $30. Yes, it is almost the same as it is now with Blu-ray. The prices will come down eventually. I haven't had the problem with DVD for a long time. Now I just buy the titles that I really want. I love movies and love watching movies, but I have some stuff that I have NEVER watched! But the Bly-ray discs keep calling me..........

You should probably reword the title to: do you TRY to stop yourself from buying movies?

I try...but I usually end up walking out with more movies, not less, than I had intended!

Lack of cash stops me from buying movies. Gotta feed the kids first. I always go straight to the BD department whenever in Best Buy , Future Shop, or Walmart and I grab the ones I want and wife says I'm sad, as I google the BD's.

Yeah, you're definitely not alone in this. I too have DVD's I've never watched, and since joining this site I can't stop patrolling the web for bd deals and perusing the aisles at Best Buy looking through movies I've looked at a million times. It's rough.

When I approach buying something I ask if I can get it cheaper. If yes, then I will usually not buy it there. I then ask how much can I get for it should I want to get rid of it. (This is its retained value.) If the answer is only a dollar or two less than what I paid I'll make the purchase. It's cheaper than renting movies and I have it in my possession.

So yes, I can stop myself from buying. DVDspot says my collection when new is valued at twice what I payed for it. So I am pretty much on track.

I know what you mean and I feel like buying a Blu-ray movie just because it's blu-ray but so far I'm in control. I buy only the ones I like, I just hit 50 Blu-ray movies (which is small compare to others) There's only about 8 more that are out that i really want and I think 5 more coming soon.

"Control, control. You must learn control."

Considering there are hardly any movies worth buying on BD right now, it's not very difficult to stop. Wake up FOX and MGM!!!

The siren call of blurays is one no man can resist. I went to Best Buy yesterday to grab a new portable memory. I walked out with another bluray as well.

My aunt once asked my mom if my movie buying was a problem. My mother's response, "At least it's not heroin."

Nice to know that those were my options: Movies or Heroin.

Think I made the right choice?

I bought two at Best Buy for a class. I went home looked at the prices on-line and took both back the next day. I think they were collectively 12 dollars more at BB. My cost was having to wait for them to arrive though.

I buy a lot, but I am also pretty selective at the same time. Looking at some of the members collections here I am very impressed, but now that I see this thread it makes me wonder how many of the guys with already huge Blu ray collections just buy to buy with no real thought to the movie itself.

I only buy movies I want to own or like...

there are certain movies that people buy because the PQ is fantastic, even if the storyline sucked...

I once had someone here bash me because I said I didn't like Crank and called me a fanboy for owning X-Men III.....

but at least I have an excuse (in being a fanboy???)...I won't just buy a movie because the PQ is outstanding...

although...I completely see the addiction...sometimes I want to buy a BD just to own one...and then I see the selection and only see worthwhile buys as movies I already own...

While I admit to buying some movies that I don't consider to be masterpieces of cinema, I don't buy anything just because it's on bluray.

I usually look at a movie before I buy it and ask myself, "Will I watch this more than twice?" If the answer is yes, then I'll probably buy the movie. The problem comes when I buy every movie that I'll watch more than twice.

For example, I bought "The Big Hit". Was it an okay movie? Yes. Is it something I'll watch a couple of times? Yes. Is it something I had to own my own copy of? NO. And that's the problem.

I have recently stopped all my bd buying. 1 reason is because I only have a few more I want. 2 would be that I have blockbuster total access. I prefer to rent to make sure its good, then buy. once 300, untouchables and warriors come out i'll be good til xmas.

everytime I see a deal though I have to stop myself and think about how many times i'll actually watch the movie.

I'm guilty of it. I bought Ultimate Avengers mostly as it was on Blu-Ray.
I look at alot of movies that should be renters right now for us.

But in all, nothing too bad.
