That person was referring to
[Show spoiler]the fact that Hux had already left the station once it started to melt down. That scene also happens before Hux talks to Snoke where Snoke tells him to get Kylo. All the signs point to Hux, Snoke, and Kylo meeting somewhere after the base exploded.

If in fact this is more or less a remake... or an homage... of all three OT in one movie, maybe this was meant strictly for the fans (more or less) just as they say. They got what they wanted and in a big way. Highly familiar and simple with no overly complicated plot. So done. From here, no more retreads. Myself, I will know more when I see it. So take that for what it is, an opinion not a review.

Maybe JJ learned a lesson from ST. Make the first movie strictly for the fans while at the same time setting things up a little for something different in the future. If you think about the first movies #1 was pretty much typical Star Trek. At least for me. #2 not so much. But it worked. Though unintentionally since I doubt, at the time, they planned to take Star Trek more in that direction.

Others already said but
[Show spoiler]The guy says "why should we stay? Even Hux has left already!" And it cuts to Hux being told to pick Kylo up.

Even beyond that
[Show spoiler] He is shown breathing looking at Rey, then they are separated by the land shift. There would be no narrative reason to do that if he was dead.

I saw this Friday morning in Imax (3D) with a friend and Saturday morning (2D) with my son. I plan on seeing it at least one more time. I just want to say, thank you JJ Abrams and everyone else who worked on this. There is nothing else like going to the theater and feeling like a little kid again. I thought JJ had a lot of pressure to resurrect the Star Wars franchise back to its glory, but Rian Johnson has the responsibility of having to follow up The Force Awakens. I'm happy JJ set the bar so high, and I hope Rian Johnson can meet those similar expectations.

Cool, would love that if that is the case (cool concept). Guess we'll find out in May of 2017 (only 1.5 years away!).

I just came out of the theater after seeing this for the first time and all I can say is I'm stunned and not in a good way. Maybe heart broken would be a better description. I don't know what I just saw but it wasn't Star Wars. It looked more like an extended fan film trying to pay homage and grab a hold of the magic but missing at every turn.
There was a burning question for me about this movie. Would it feel like Star Wars? That's something it had to do above everything else. It's something even the prequels accomplished. Could it capture the magic that separates Star Wars from every other sci-fi film and franchise? I'm only left with a resounding no. I'm a long time fan and grew up with the original trilogy when it was new. I stayed away from spoilers, reviews and forums. I only watched the trailers a couple of times. I went in excited, optimistic, with an open mind and tried to keep it that way. As I sat there and the discontent was setting in, I kept telling myself, "give it a chance, it'll get better ". It didn't. I actually felt bored and eventually couldn't wait for it to end. I checked my watch to see that I was already more than halfway through the movie and I still wasn't enjoying it. Maybe a big finale would help tie it together? Nope. Nothing worked for me here. The humor fell flat, the drama, tension, and excitement were all missing. The characters old and new felt flat and lifeless. The story had no intrigue and the "surprises" were all predictable. It all just felt empty. The CG characters were also pretty cartoony looking. Some good make-up on real people would've worked much better. The musical score didn't even grab me. This film never pulled me into its world. I was never in a galaxy far, far away.
No, this isn't hating or trolling. I don't enjoy giving a negative review for something I wanted so badly to be good. I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan who was as excited as anyone at the announcement of a new film, but I can't make excuses for a franchise I love when it puts out a dud of a film. I shouldn't have to talk myself into liking it. If it were anything else, I'd come out saying that I didn't like it and can't recommend it. That's what I have to do here.
For a film that was supposed to made for the fans, I don't feel like it was made for me. Maybe they tried too hard to please us instead of just telling a good story. Maybe you just can't recreate someone else's art with the same effect. I see from the ratings that I'm in the minority and that's ok. I'm not trying to talk anyone into not liking it and that's great for those that do. I wish I did too but I don't and nobody is more bothered about that than me.

Bluyoda, I'd say try your best to like/enjoy it - it has all the cool stuff we all love, ships in space, Xwings, the force (some really cool uses this time round), the OT characters, LIGHTSABERS, etc.

I see where you're coming from in that yes, it's a bit different than maybe what GL would have done, but it also has some totally awesome stuff, good humor and it's enjoyable.

Anyway, hopefully on more viewings it will grow on you.
I can't wait to see it again, I plan to see maybe 3-4x in theaters.

Going to see it a 2nd time with my son tonight. Maybe I enjoyed it so much that I didn't notice all the references back to the original series but I completely fell in love with it!

I can already hear Walmart, Target, and Best Buy fighting over the exclusive SteelBook edition

I agree with you sir. I wanted to like this movie but really couldn't too many flaws. Acting was bad, story wasn't great and some of the characters looked to cgi and fake. I wish Disney would of accepted George lucas's scripts and ideas.

Who says Abrams didn't consult extensively with George and other people who were previously involved with SW before beginning the legwork to make this film?

I don't agree with all of that but yeah, it didn't do it for me. I think this is gonna be Avengers all over again: the rest of the world loses their shit while I think 'huh, is that it?'

I get a kick out of people that can't see the difference in own's own taste and how a film appeals to the majority.

I'm a bit too dense to work out whether that's an insult or not, but I'm allowed to like what I like, amiright? I certainly have never said (neither here nor in any Avengers threads) that people are somehow deficient for it, I'm actually kinda bummed that I'm not joining in the group celebration again. Make that a third time if you include Jurassic World which I thought was pretty darned poor.

In the immortal paraphrased words of Sgt. Murtagh: Maybe I really am getting too old for this shit.

I also think the same way Geoff D. Jurassic World felt very similar to this movie. I thought " I've seen this movie before..." I'm not saying its a remake of Jurassic Park/ SW: A New Hope, but it really felt like these movies were completely playing it safe. I hope VIII tries something new and more bold.

You won't please everyone, from the jp super fan whose mad it took the record, to the oblivious non Star Wars seeing fan who clicks a negative review or doesn't care, to the über Star Wars fan who for each decade built his or her idea of a perfect movie...

Someone will always be pissed. I'm just happy the vast vast majority of young and old are enjoying the franchise and showing Disney this is a franchise worth continued investment in, and not something that needs to be shelved like fantastic four...
