I would say "I knew that too" (my Grandmother was Italian) but that line's starting to get old, so....

[edit] I got a Christmas card from the rellies today in fact, saying that they expect me over there sooner rather than later! Still, time seems to fly these days, we'll be wishing each other Buona Pasqua in no time.

Here in Italy today is still official holiday "Santo Stefano" (St. Stephen's Day), the first christian martyr

Can someone explain why it's called "Boxing Day" in the UK"?

A challenge with regards to implementing HDR most optimally, is that HDR content is being created with some pixels containing increased peak brightness levels that cannot be reproduced on all consumer HDR displays (given their respective luminance capability)…..and….not to forget, HDR content is also being created with some pixels containing shadow detail beyond the capability of all HDR displays (e.g. high end vs. low end TVs, OLED vs LCDs)..

Not to mention that the mapping algorithm becomes even more complicated since you are mapping color volume and dynamic range at the same time. Soooo, completing my last post……

by which the television (with the help of the Dolby Vision dynamic metadata) enables a more elegant solution at representing the HDR image.

…..whereas, with HDR10 and ST2084 (PQ transfer function) + 2086 (static metadata), that solution expects the consumer TV manufacturer to take that signal and then provide their tone mapping of shadow detail and tone mapping (of course roll-off, rather than hard clipping) of bright highlights that exceed the particular TV’s capability……which inserts some/more variability into the outcome as compared to the DV proprietary approach.

Bottom line to individual TV manufacturers is whether Dolby’s intelligence (content mapping) of the system and fidelity of the source input worth the price of admission…..or, will they make more profit on HDR by offering only a free, generic playback solution?

I’ve heard different stories but I don’t know, for sure, the accurate origin of how the name came about. I found the story of ‘the real Saint Nicholas’ to be rather interesting…..

The 2016 movie lineup is LOADED with 4k masters.

Suicide squad
Independence day 2
Batman vs superman
The list goes on.

The only big name movie that have 2k masters is xmen and divergent.
