Default Tutorial for adding and editing releases??

That would make sense. There isn't really anything explaining how to add a new release to the database or how to add a variation of a release to the database. Or how the submission process actually works.

The form sucks and each section needs more detail explaining what exactly needs to be filled in. The form has typing mistakes in it which tells me the creators probably don't care about it that much.

How do you even upload covers? I search for the image on my desktop, click it, and then that's it right? I'm being told my submissions are blank.... What about the master movie ID for films that aren't listed? Leave it blank? Put it at 0? Hell if I know... I do both. Maybe I should try putting in my cat's name.

Just seems like things could be more clear. There are lots of releases that have been out for years which are not listed here. Maybe they would be listed if that process was explained better.

I agree that some sort of instructions or tutorial would be of benefit. I've heard that something like that is being worked on, but I'm not privy to much in the way of insider info, so can't say with certainty.

Personally, I've been a member here for just under a year, and been submitting info for less than that, so most all of what I've gotten to know is from asking questions as they arise, trying to understand why the system works as it does, and a bit of trial and error.

From what I've gleaned, the current contribution system has grown organically, with trial and error too, and not everyone always of the same mind. Nothing and no one's perfect of course, but for a site that's free to use whose contributors are unpaid, then I think it manages pretty well overall.

I've been surprised at some of the movies, dvd's, cast and crew, etc. that I've found not present too, but for me that just represented an opportunity to take care of things that matter a little more to me, and give back and help others who might like those same things, or own those same movies. Other people here may be taking care of more important things behind the scenes, or stuff that's of benefit to more members. I don't know, but if we all do our part in whatever way we can, then I think that the site will continue to improve, and be even more valuable in various ways.

As far as master movie ID's, then there definitely are some missing (though rarely something will be under an alternate title, either rightly or through another contributor's mistake). To add one, then go to any existing movie, and look for this line:

Quote:
Edit movie | Edit cast & crew | Upload image(s) | Clone movie | Add new movie | Create: Blu-ray DVD UltraViolet iTunes AIV
^ Add new movie, will bring up the submission form for the films and tv shows. Which will probably bring it's own set of questions, but that's how you start the process.

As far as covers go, then it sounds like you've found the "Upload covers" area. After that then you unclick the little checked box saying "Keep back image" and click "Choose File" then choose the image from your desktop until your file's name replaces "no file selected". Then go to the bottom right and click the "Submit" button. Give it however seconds it needs to upload, until it thanks you for the submission, and that should be all that's necessary (assuming that the file is of the correct dimensions, not too small, etc.). That's always worked for me, if you've tried that and it doesn't help then hopefully someone else will reply who knows more about the process.

I also don't know how to add directors and cast members to a movie when there's nothing to click on to let me do it: https://www.blu-ray.com/dvd/The-Holy...in-DVD/117097/

I have created new profiles for directors but I don't see how to add movies to their profile: https://www.blu-ray.com/Ibolya-Fekete/552245/#Overview

I was told by someone that approves submissions that it was blank but now the pictures are there: https://www.blu-ray.com/dvd/Tales-fr...vie-DVD/25640/ BUT I don't know how to remove the slipcover pictures. There was no slipcover for that release. I also don't know what sizes are needed for covers. I've used standard sizes from Amazon and none of my other covers have been approved yet.

Generally speaking if there isn't a Master Movie ID then you leave that part of the DVD or BD submission form blank, submit the theatrical entry and then link the two when both have been approved.

Sorry I wasn't clearer. If/when there isn't a Master Movie ID aka a Theatrical Entry, then you can create one. That's what the instructions were for, but this link should hopefully work too: https://www.blu-ray.com/products/?c=...ion=addproduct

You can just create a BD (or any other listing) without one, but it's not as good, and doesn't allow things like adding Cast & Crew.

Right. You have to start with the Master Movie ID / Theatrical Entry and then add info from there, such as Cast & Crew. I don't see any movies from the director you mention are in the database, so let's go to the new Star Wars movie just for an example of a film that does exist. https://www.blu-ray.com/Star-Wars-Th...wakens/156455/

You would scroll down to the line that says

Quote:
Edit movie | Edit cast & crew | Upload image(s) | Clone movie | Add new movie | Create: Blu-ray DVD UltraViolet iTunes AIV
Edit cast & crew takes you here: https://www.blu-ray.com/Star-Wars-Th...tion=cast_edit

That page allows you to edit info on the people in that movie. Once it's submitted and approved then it will appear on the front page for that film, and also all the BD, DVD, UV, iTunes, etc. pages that are linked to it by a Master Movie ID / Theatrical Entry. So you need to start by creating an entry for films like Bolse vita (1996), before you can add Ibolya Fekete as the director and writer for them.

I can only see what's there now. I am only a regular member, not anyone with any special moderator/administrator powers. The images for that title are now locked, which means it's under review and you just have to wait for however long until that process is done to see what changes are made. In my experience that time varies.

You may be right that there wasn't a slipcover, maybe there was one for a later release (?), I don't know. It might be worth trying to ask the person who submitted that, as he may have had some reason for doing so. Whether he knows something you don't, or is just mistaken, then I've heard of instances where people might disagree and keep changing things back and forth the way they each want it (which could even escalate further). Which seems a waste to me, as hopefully a little communication can prevent a lot of problems.

I really don't know about the sizes, sorry. The Amazon pics often work, but not always. Sometimes images from other sites will work, but other times I've tried over half a dozen with no luck.

Cast and crew cannot be added until there is a master movie entry.

(Be sure to search for an existing one before creating something new. )

I know how you feel, Nuck Horris. I tried to get answers about a year ago:

I was promised that guidelines/rules for making submissions were coming, but I haven't seen them.

Good Luck!

Well... Things would've went a lot easier if I knew that I needed to create actual movie pages before listing a DVD. I just want to get the 20-30 from my collection listed but it has taken way longer than I wanted it to.

I think I have most of it figured out except for a few things:

Why no Chinese in the dvd subtitles list?

What happens when a studio isn't listed in the database? Can we create studio pages? That sounds like a lot of fun......

I think I had one release where it's aspect ratio wasn't listed in the submission menu...

I'm running into UPCs with extra numbers that I can't list.

What about movies with multiple countries of origin? I can only list one as far as I know.

I think I have some more problems but I forget what they were. I'll be back...

When viewing a release, you can click this link to add a version for a different country:

The nice thing here is that it will carry over a lot of the specs, but you'll still need to be careful to ensure they are correct.

I'm talking about movies with multiple countries of origin, not releases. The create a new movie form only lets me put in one country when I need 2 or more.

Well, he had the cover from a later release as the real cover and the real cover as a slipcase... But I can't do much about it. I don't know if any of my other pictures will get approved. Seems like a better idea to put the Amazon pictures on as temps just so they aren't blank.

Three varieties of Chinese subtitles are listed: Mandarin (Traditional), Mandarin (Simplified) and Cantonese. It's not unusual to have more than one on a Blu-ray, although I don't know about a DVD.

It all sounds the same to me... My DVDs just say Chinese. There's an audio option for just "Chinese" so I don't see why there shouldn't be for subs.

It could be worse. I entered around 150 (yes, one hundred fifty) DVD entries before I found out about the importance of Movie Pages. I sympathize.

Could they be EAN (International Article Number)'s? I haven't run into them much, but if they're foreign releases then those apparently have a 13th digit.

Meanwhile, I think some UPC's have 14 digits, or appear to, in that case I'm not 100% sure what the proper course is.

That seems odd, but I've seen stranger. Based on what you've said then I'd agree that getting temp. images from a reputable source like Amazon is better than none.

Our UK EAN are quite simple, you'd just take every digit from underneath the barcode (as we generally only have 13). The US releases with 14 digits, like Raising Arizona, you leave off the last two digits for the UPC. You'd add a 0 at the start for the EAN (which you don't really need to add to US releases anyway). Sometimes the 80 is on the end making 14 digits, but it's often on top of the barcode.

Raising Arizona

Barcode
0 2454370690 8 80
UPC
024543706908
EAN
0024543706908

If there's any confusion with barcodes just enter them into Amazon's search engine, if they're incorrect you won't get any results (you wouldn't for the barcode number above).

We can't, but what we can and should do is report them in the dedicated thread for such happenings: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...238591&page=18

For some reason it is difficult to merge or delete those, so it can take months for whoever does take care of them to do so, but they do eventually get handled.

Duplicates, and even triplicates, can occur with movies such as that one, or people, Blu's, DVD's etc.
