He's not wrong exactly. Season 5 was an imperfect season that really doesn't compare to the earlier seasons and the Dorne storyline really didn't feel alive unless Doran was in a scene. But it was the Castle Black storyline that kept the momentum going. But yeah, I question the Emmys for giving this season, of all seasons, the Best Drama and Dinklage shouldn't have gotten Supporting Actor over Jonathan Banks, but I'm not disappointed with it where I'd completely swear off buying the set or giving up on the show.

Default Bonus Content & Exclusives

For this release Amazon UK once again has an exclusive bonus disc with 3 segments:

- The Final Step (25.51)
- The Massacre at Hardhome (28.00)
- Visual Effects of Season 5 (25.36)

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Game-...lu-ray/148393/

Target has an exclusive with The Massacre at Hardhome.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Game-...lu-ray/147476/

^ No pic yet there, but it is on the site if you click the 2nd image option:

Based on what happened with Season 4, I think it very likely that BB's exclusive bonus disc will be either The Final Step OR Visual Effects of Season 5, with WM getting the other.

I don't know for certain, but that seems the likeliest possibility, with the Amazon UK Exclusive being the best bet for those people most interested in Bonus Content.

Preordered the UK set. For $39 it's not a bad deal. The U.S. set will likely be $30 on release day so I'm paying $9 for more special features. If it was just some throw away short features I wouldn't bother but 78 minutes extra is a sizable chunk.

Ugh. I think I bought the Target exclusive last year and ordered the Amazon UK version. Kept the bonus disc and gave the UK BD to my sister. Looks like that's what I'm doing this year too.

For me Season 5 was a great season-not outstanding mind you-but great. It had never won Best Drama before so better now than to keep it waiting. It was waaaaay overdue.

The Dorne storyline was lacking in certain respects, but it was a minor subplot in an otherwise stellar season. In many ways, it was my favorite (though you can't really beat Season 4).

The fact that they should have been winning the Emmy every other year as well doesn't take away from the fact that I think they absolutely deserved it for Season Five.

If anything, the opposite is true. You take a 5.1 or 7.1 and play it back on an Atmos system, some of the signal is going to wind up in the four height channels with their own amplifier channels. That's going to reduce overall distortion.

On the other hand, as with any mix-down, phasing artifacts can cause cancellations, but it all depends upon how the Dolby processing is handling the four extra channels when the speaker channels aren't there.

Season Five was easily my least favorite season so far.

I can't imagine anyone thinking it was better than 2, 3 or 4.

...but that's just me.
