I'd really like to see THE SECT. I've actually never seen it. It only had a PAL DVD release and I never bothered...

I have the Italian PAL DVD of THE SECT and it's pretty lousy PQ wise, you're not missing anything Brian81. I strongly suspect we'll be getting an announcement for THE SECT to go along with OPERA and THE CHURCH in the next few days.

If I recall, Argento was also responsible for writing that terrible Mansonite hippie scene at the beginning of The Sect, which I think I read Soavi was not pleased by. Kind of sad considering Soavi was like Argento's protege whose first movie was a documentary on the guy, but I'm sure it must have been really freeing not to work with him on Dellamorte where his talents weren't held back.

The Church is a grower. Come back to it in a couple years and see if you still feel the same way.

this is what I'm hoping for. I watched it for the first time last year and found it quite dreadfully slow as well. I'm hoping that a revisit when this is released changes my opinion. Sometimes just having an increase in visual quality is enough for me to appreciate a film in a whole new light, so hopefully this holds true with The Church.

I have yet to watch the film but it has been on my 'to do' list for years now and it now seems like the time to do it.

I just rewatched The Sect after several years have gone by. I still consider it the weakest of Soavi's '80s and '90s movies, but there's some beautiful photography and ambience there. However, I still don't like that
[Show spoiler]it basically turns into Rosemary's Baby toward the end, only nowhere near as good.

The script is all over the place. Mesmerizing direction and camerawork though, and Donaggio's score helps set the mood nicely. I didn't know till tonight that the lead is Jamie Lee Curtis' sister.

A Blu-ray would be a must-buy despite the movie's shortcomings. I was watching my Italian DVD which indeed looks like garbage. (I was pleased to see it's anamorphic at least.) Hopefully if it ever does get released over here, they won't use the name The Devil's Daughter.

It's awesome to see this coming to Blu-ray, but it's disappointing that it's coming from Code Red. At least Blue Underground would have been reasonably priced, authored with better video compression and more than likely better in special features. I'm ready to get raped by Code Red My Wallet =

I didn't know this about the hippie scene but without it, most of "The Sect" is downright horrible and a terrible movie. The only reason I even saw it was because Argento's name was on it, not Soavi's.

If by any chance someone knows where to contact Mr. Michele Soavi, I'm looking to interview him and ask him a few questions about a for a project of mine. He's been really hard to find. Please contact me by MP.

I was checking the TCM schedule and noticed this was airing tomorrow. I remembered there as an announcement on here for a blu-ray release and stumbled upon this as I was searching the database:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-C...lu-ray/143006/

Happinet is releasing this on Feb. 2 in Japan. Any updates on the Code Red release?

Seems strange someone already added "upconvert" besides 1080p on the JP disc without a review or anything.

Happinet themselves said it was an upconvert. Translation in this thread:

Ahh that sounds a little sketchy indeed. Hopefully only a few scenes, maybe the gory ones if they were cut before. Like other titles where they had to add lower quality inserts. I can be ok with that if the rest looks good.

If you're also handling the encoding, I'll be even more excited. I know I said some shit in the Opera thread but I have a few Scorpion BDs and am pleased with the quality.
