Dunno - that was just one of the nicer things to say that came to my mind. I figured that "the darkest and deepest pits of Hell are reserved for you" might be a bit over the top.

The perceived extra "detail" has a lot to do with the style of "cinematographY" Dreamworks CGI employs for their films...they prefer to have just about every item in a frame in full focus, where Pixar is much more realistic in their deployment of depth of field...background items appear out of focus in their virtual cameras, as they would to real lenses. The intended effect of which is to make their pictures look as real as possible.

Just another reason why Pixar is miles ahead of itis competitors in the world of computer animated features.

i still respectfully disagree. i think it has to do with dreamworks style of cg as already mentioned in this thread. they employ a technique similar to the sims pc game, it appears, which my wife plays- to use digital snapshots of real people and objects. stop the video of fiona's mother in funeral scene. difficult to say if she is real or animated. her hairnet is only thing that obviously looks animated. you can't say that about car's or ratatouille. look at shrek's chest and shoulder hair protruding through fabric of shirt. look at people's skin pores in face. notice individual hairs out of place over ears on the villian with brown hair and beard in the bar scene, hairs that are one of a hundred thousand you could count if u wanted. not so in the other animateds of which i am also a fan! as far as the quality of movie related to first two, i agree: inferior, blu-ray quality though - none better!

wow...while i'm somewhat surprised at the comment above at the same time it doesn't surprise me. obviously, most anime's on blu are the sh*t and if you haven't figured that out yet keep trying. you obviously, need to add cars and ratatouille to your collection as these are BY FAR the best anime movies out to date. wall-e, might surpass them all when released.

They are good but not as good as Japanese animators. You need to see their work, geared towards adults, not kiddos.

The quality goes beyond the style of animation, it depends on what the viewer likes more. If they like shiney objects then CARS is the best. If they like lots of color and vegitation, then Shrek is tops. It they like Robots, outerspace and sci-fi then Wall-E will blow them away.

While true that some transfers are just crap, alot has to do with taste, and you can't argue taste.

Appleseed Ex Machina is barely better the than upconverted dvd. And not even close to Cars, Ratatouille, Corpse Bride, and Happy Feet.

Pixar is the best. This subject isn't even debatable. Dremworks can't compare in terms of Animation, story and everything else. Pixar also put's more time and effort into their films. Kung Fu Panda was a good movie and there are some interesting dreamworks films in the works, but pixar still blows them out of the water.

well stated and i agree somewhat but i'm not considering taste in this thread. '300', 'nat treas II', and 'narnia' detailed nicely in blu. 'cars' is a sound demo. shrek third can match pq of 'i robot' scene for scene if u will allow me to compare the two types of films this once.

There's an understatement. And all of it warranted.

I'm not really a fan of the Shrek series, but I will have to rent anything that "blows Cars out of the water" with PQ, although I tend to think that may be exagerrated.
