Sony should upgrade the friends list, so it can have a number next to each avatar saying total number of trophies. i hate waiting for that stupid gamer card thing to load up! Plus it should say a how many you have got out of your possible maximum dependign on number of games you have. for example 69/150.

I have another great idea.

Allow users to disable obtaining trophy's.

I felt like this trophy thing was pushed on me without any choice over the matter.

Im also annoyed when I look at my friend list and hit x to see there messages that I instead get there trophy's. I want to talk to them not see what they did in a game.

Im glad alot of people like them, but I felt like I am being forced to be annoyed by something I did not ask for or want.

I even find the notifications to be annoying sometimes blocking my view of things that are much much more important.

Im sorry but im not into this pulling it out and comparing sizes thing like some people. Laughing Out Loud....

Anyway sorry just my little rant... dk3dknight steps down from his soapbox...

1. Im not trying to say devs can't make DLC that has trophies as incentives to buying the DLC.

Im saying that with every $9.99 PSN game, there should be a set # of trophies that the player can get with his purchase, without having to purchase more.

If a developer wants to add DLC and use trophies as a marketting tool, extra trophies should be added to the game.

I don't want to waste $9.99 buying a game that supports trophies, only to find out that I can only get 5 trophies in the game unless I buy DLC.

2. We're in agreement

3. Its not a big deal, there are obviously more important things, but its already getting old that every game uses this as their platinium/top trophy. Their should be a higher achievement in a game than get all the gold/silver/bronze trohpies.

4. We're in agreement

5. If you didn't know HOME gives users there own 3-D trophy room. I want all my 2-D trophies that I got, to be in my HOME trophy room. I don't want some dev telling me that all the trophies that I earned are not going to be included in my HOME trophy room, because they're too lazy to make them transition into HOME.

6. Once again when I drop money for a PSN or blu-ray game, there should be a set # of trophies that come with it. I paid for that package and shouldn't be required to shell out even more money to achieve everything that comes with the game.

If they want to add perphial trophies make them bonus trophies that aren't included in the origianl set of trophies for the game.

This sets up incentives for the business while also giving users who purchased extra perphials for their PS3s a little extra something.

7. Trophies should add something to the game. Making trophies were the player commits suicide on purpose is dumb and IMO takes away from the quality of the game.

Im not against easy trophies.

8. Once again, I paid $60 for a game, I should be able to achieve everything in that game with the money I paid for that game. I shouldn't be required to purchase more crap to fully beat the game.

There is a difference between a business making quality products and marketing them to consumers for profit, but it is totally different when a business tries to take advantage of the customer.

I'd also like an announcement from Sony that BACK games WILL NOT get trophies. I have some older games I haven't started yet. (Like Sonic) I don't want to play it and them release trophies. I'd rather them just say. These games will get them and these games will NOT. I don't like guessing.

So going off your list of what should be adjusted to trophies:

1. There should be a base- Original 20 Trophies which can obtain the Platinum Trophy. And then Extra's via DLC which allow

2. Just make PS3-Youtube a feature in the PS3 firmware, which it will either export to Youtube or XMB. I like that idea better. Works for all games.

3. Keep Platinum Trophies the way they are.

6.

I agree with this. I don't want to buy an EyeToy for the LBP trophy, but I probably will.

7. But stupid trophies are fun!

I still don't understand. What makes you think this is even the game makers choice? It makes perfect sense to have "Platinum" be "All trophies won". What does it buy you to move a single trophy from Gold Status to Platinum status and nuke the platinum as it exists?

I agree with the stardust game. I want to buy the game 9.99 have a certain trophy list for that . IF i buy the expansion than it goes down to let's say 85% and than i have to get the bonus trophies to get to 100% again.

I don't agree with your problem with extra controllers and webcam. For burnout paradise it was brand new , to take pictures of your enemies when you take them down. It's a great / fun concept and while i haven't gotten the trophy yet i still think it's a great idea. Same for eden 3 players. They want you to play 3 players and it's a cool trophy to get if you do it right.

At the end of the day , you should be playing games first and the trophies should be a bonus. I don't understand people who refuse to play a game simply because it doesn't have trophies. Trophies are like the icing on the cake but that doesn't make the rest of it not as good.

I don't see an entitlement for trophies so don't mind when expansions have their own trophies (and indeed would kind of expect it). For purposes of bragging rights, etc the comparison would reveal which were for expansions and which weren't.

i heard you CAN get platinum w/o doing the "add-on" trophies...... maybe i heard wrong.

I agree with most of your comments. I was so looking forward to get the platnuim trophy in burnout paradise (My first game with trophys by the way), but i cant now because ive gotta either buy EOJ with the eye toy, or buy it on its own. I know you can use any USB camera but its not the point.

+1

I don't have a USB camera or the Eye, and I'm not going to buy one just to get a trophy. I would never use it again so it would be wasted money. I think having to spend money in order to get a Platinum trophy when the trophies are a free addition is just ridiculous.

The Eye is pretty useful. I use tha instead of the headset when playing online. It also came in handy playing Burnout.

I agree that requiring DLC or peripheral purchases is kinda lame nickel and dime marketing. I also concur that no game should EVER require that you own another game in order to get a trophy. That should have been written in the 10 commandments of trophy making, in my opinion.

Personally, I don't see trophies as anything special. Frankly, games like RB6V(1&2) already had what I like and I've always been surprised more games didn't. They had a list of achievements (or whatever you want to call them) for you to try and complete in the game. It made a GREAT way to help players find new and inventive ways to play as well as discover some things they may not have otherwise. They are a great roadmap to maximizing player exposure to content and fun. If it takes trophies to get all games to have such a 'roadmap to content', then so be it. But, that is all I really see trophies being. A guide for the game.

I never understood how so many multiplat games would have great lists of achievements on 360 but not offer the list to PS3 (even before Trophies) as Drake's and RB6V have. It was ridiculous.

Anyhow, that is all I see trophies being and all they should be, in my opinion. They are not a competitive item or a device for measuring the size of one's e-peen. They are just a great guide to maximizing content in a game for the player.

Keep them simple like that and they will always be great, make them competitive and their value will plummet (just as Achievements on 360 have with leaderboards where all players just rent the hell out of cheese games with easy achievements just to get their Gamer Score up... lameness).

Aside from all that, I am totally sick of trophies being added to games retroactively. If the game is already out without trophies, leave it that way. Move on, please. Sony just needs to require them in all games moving forward.

Good post proteus. I love the ideas of trophies because it simply extra challenges to do for you to "finish" the game. I'm loving the WipeoutHD trophies right now. I don't mind that they are adding trophies retroactively, gives more incentives for people to maybe buy the game if they hadn't before and for others it's a chance to dust off an old game you probably loved ( Uncharted obviously). GTA IV i never finished so i don't mind starting over and while I did finish MGS4 I will go back and do the trophies simply because I want to play it again.

Truthfully, if there wasn't any good games on the horizon I wouldn't be so bothered by 'going back' to do MGS4 and GTAIV again; however, with the load of massive AAA titles coming to PS3 over the next few months I don't see how I will ever have the time!

I'll try to respond without getting into trouble.

As to your points:

Point 1 : Downloadable content is fine as long as it adds new trophies (like that other console does). However, making you buy extra stuff to get the "original" trophies is wrong.

Point 3: Not concerned. On that other system, there's "trophies" for just starting the game, hitting the start button or getting other stuff that you got "credit" for doing.

Point 4: Yes 1000 fold. I stopped buying PS3 games because of this. I'm looking forward to a fun 2009 with the PS3. I hope trophies become mandatory. Of course, I also realized that I was enjoying the same few games and didn't need new ones.

Point 5: I guess. Can't say I care about HOME one bit. Funny, that was one of the selling points in 2007 to me and now I don't care at all. So, I guess I go with you here.

Point 6: Right. You shouldn't have to buy a "light gun" to get a trophy unless the game was Duck Hunt.

Point 7: Not with you here at all. I like humor. On that other system, there are lots of "trophies" that are stupid, but fun to do (and sometimes funny). What isn't funny are the "trophies" that you have to play 100 hours to get or something else that's very ridiculous. Not everyone is like you or I. They need to mix it up. Usually those trophies will be for extremely casual players.

Point 8: This "trophy" is on that other system and it doesn't bother me much. It's a nice bonus for people who support a series. As long as it's a minimal trophy, I don't care. Although, I guess it's a bigger issue for the PS3. I'd rather see something else like a special team or player being unlocked.

The Eye has many uses, and it sure as heck beats long-distance phone calls with the daughter up north since we just video conference each other so she can talk to her Mom. Also comes in handy for Warhawk and any other online co-op games that support online chat. Works great with my Mac G4 as well, so the purchase of the Eye was not a waste by any means.

I understand the frustration with not being able to earn a trophy based on one's accessory collection, but as it is, trophies to me are just icing on the cake. Personal accomplishment is great, but I personally don't care if I'm advertising it to the rest of the world or not via the trophy system.
