Because you're used to watching TV with an unrealistic picture. Real life doesn't "pop" the way vivid mode TVs do, so why should an accurate picture?

In other words, what you're experiencing is the difference between "spectacular" and "life-like". The latter is more realistic, but some people prefer the former. And that's fine provided they don't try to claim that it is more life-like!
