Default vivid mode on plasma?

Im aware that most of you say you dont get accurate colors, etc. on vivid or dynamic. I tried some suggestions on cinema and I keep going back to vivid, mainly because it is bright and colorful and to me is the prettiest picture. I could say it looks good to me and thats all that matters. I did turn down the contrast and brightness alittle. I guess Im trying to understand whats wrong with that mode if thats what you prefer? I really dont see how everything is inaccurate, and if it is,it gives the best looking picture IMO. Hope Im not the only one that prefers that mode.

When in Vivid mode you're also using more power and more likely to suffer from image retention or burn-in.

Some people may like having everyone on screen having the same skin-tone as an umpa-lumpa, but I don't.

If you like it, that's all that matters. However, it's not the "most accurate" since it typically oversaturates and cranks up the brightness and contrast. Colors are going to most likely look off in some films, especially ones that are already "more punchy" to begin with like Crank and Speed Racer.

The other thing is that you're potentially shortening the life of the HDTV because you're using it at full brightness/power as opposed to a longer life where it isn't working as hard.

It's your TV though- in the end if you're happy with it, leave it there.

Game mode looks bright and I dont use it. Why would panny give you the option if they knew it could damage your tv?

you should get a calibration dvd like DVE and watch it. it explains a lot about tv and everything you need to know about accuracy.

So you have to purchase another TV when you burn the first one....and to sell TV's in the retail environment. That's why they all look so "pretty" in the store ..

Watch it in whatever setting makes you happy. My friend loves Vivid, I prefer Intelligent Sensor.. I'm not sure what TV's have it but LG does.

Because you're used to watching TV with an unrealistic picture. Real life doesn't "pop" the way vivid mode TVs do, so why should an accurate picture?

In other words, what you're experiencing is the difference between "spectacular" and "life-like". The latter is more realistic, but some people prefer the former. And that's fine provided they don't try to claim that it is more life-like!

in a day or two you will adjust to the "duller" mode and "LSD-vision" will be a thing of the past for you

I'd highly encourage you to read through some of the sticky threads.

All of your questions have been well-answered countless times in countless other threads. If you don't read through the other threads then I hope you enjoy torching a beautiful plasma.

I think that on a subconscious level your mind may be trying to regain some of those joyful experiences from your LSD days by telling you to keep the plasma on "vivid" so you now have two choices:

1) Keep the set on vivid and keep your subconscious happy

2) Switch to another setting and just drop some.....

I actually have a Panasonic plasma. My settings for my model might be different from your settings.

I'd recommend that you head over to avsforum.com and look for the Owners thread for whatever model you have. A lot of people post their settings in the owners forums.

The best option though would be for you to pick up a calibration disk so you can get the most ideal settings for your set and your situation.
