Annoying Onkyo 605 problem.

Interesting approach - to make a video of the problem. I could barely make out your voice though.

It might say the ohm rating on the speaker???

A 4 ohm load may drive your receiver to hard and cause it to shut down or go into protection mode from running to hot.

Found it! The sticker was ripped off on the speaker i was checking.

They are 8 ohm speakers. (the fronts)

My back speakers are 6 Ohm, 200 watts.

I dont have the 7.1 up anymore since i moved the receiver.

Those speakers are 8 ohm, so you should be fine there. I would look at you connections next, then it would be time to get warranty replacement

Cant possible be the connections.

It was doing this a little while after i set it up. (Sorry about that. I just remembered... it worked fine for a couple of weeks) Then, i unhooked it and re-hooked it up hoping it would solve the problem. Didn't work.
And now about 3 weeks ago, i moved the whole receiver, TV, and speakers into my bedroom meaning i needed to unhook and re-hook it up again.

By warranty replacement, do you mean the receiver or the speakers? Cause the speakers are definately out of warranty now.
Im assuming onkyo has a one year warranty on their receivers, so im sure i could send that back if i needed to.

try calling onkyo, they can help you figure out what's wrong. almost the same thing happened to my 605 when i first got it. i got it replaced right away though. it goes into protect mode when there's a short somewhere in the system. so you have to find out where the short is. isolate the problem by unplugging everything but the fm antenna and turn the volume up when tuned into a station. if it stays on then it's most likely one of your connections.

WOW $650. I think i paid $525 for my onkyo 705 1.5 years ago. Anyways, I have read about the overheating problem on the AVS forums. I purchased an auxiliary fan to place on the rear right corner since that is where a majority of the heat is coming from. This is the BTX fan i bought since i am working with limited room. With your setup it might be better to go with something like this.

I checked out the AVS forum and the 605 thread didn't have a nice FAQ like the 705 thread does. Read up on this thread Onkyo TX-SR705. I know its the model above yours but most of the information is relative. When you go there hit "CRTL + F" and type in "temperature" and read about the way your receiver can display a temperature readout to see if its actually overheating.

Hope this helps. If i learn about anymore info I will let you know.

Edit: Check and see if any firmware updates are available.

Thanks for the links! Ill see if putting a fan near it helps, but i dont think this is an overheating issue since it happens even seconds after you turn the receiver on.

hmmm. Well thats just wonderful... So i guess ill call Onkyo tomorrow and see what they can do for me. Not sure how well this is going to go since i have no proof of when i purchased the thing. (It was a little after christmas).

it is not a heating problem. it goes into protect mode because of shorting problems. forget the fan shenanigans. some onkyos have fans built in for circumstances where the heat is unbearable. not everything is as fragile as an xbox 360.

Hahaha. I dont think anything is.

Wonder how Onkyo's tech support is gonna be.

Edit: Well, just for the fun of it, i put a rather large fan blowing onto the receiver.

Indeed they do, but the fans are very small and located on the bottom of the receiver. From what we all should have learned in 1st grade is that heat rises . Also when you have circuit boards and other accessories blocking the air flow another fan is beneficial to keep the unit cool.
