Is Strictly Ballroom out of print? I've had it in my cart at Amazon and the price has gone up quite a bit recently and only available from third party sellers.

No offense...I am sure you mean well but other sites are not a reliable source. We need to verify ourselves before posting....I only checked Frost/Nixon, Transformers DOTM 3D and Star Trek Compendium and none of those appear to be OOP.

Before the Devil Know You are Dead is OOP per Amanzon and Best Buy (image title).

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but how do you verify if something actually is OOP?

The Simplest way is to check Amazon, Wal-mart, and Best Buy's websites. Titles that are out of print will either be out of stock or not even listed at all. Since each uses it's own independent warehouses and has it's own stock, it's a good indication of what is still readily available or completely gone.

Another indication is when prices seem to be unnaturally high by more then one or two sellers on one site while normal on another.

Finally, some titles we can assume are going OOP based on the information shared here about when a license has run out for a particular studio. In the most recent case... Warner Bros recently lost the Morgan Creek library of films when their license expired. Shout Factory has licensed at least a few known films and so it's assumed that all releases put out by Warner will be permanently OOP from this point forward. Whether a release will get a re-release is anyone's guess, but most people tend to err on the side of caution and pick up titles suspected of going OOP to avoid missing out entirely or paying outrageous mark ups later on.

Honestly, that is a decent method, but sometimes titles go out of stock everywhere, but really aren't OOP. It's just a matter of the studio printing more copies to re-stock the warehouses. It's happened dozens and dozens of times. Remember when Blades of Glory and 3 Days of the Condor were ultra rare $200 blu-rays? LOL.(although at least in that case it actually was a rights issue... but I recall Warner letting Rio Bravo disappear for awhile as well and that was one of their own titles).

I guess sometimes a film gets lost in the shuffle and runs out of stock. But as the studio still owns the rights to the film, it can simply be re-pressed at any time. Obviously it's much more definitive when we can confirm that the rights changes hands, such that the OOP title can never be restocked - or at least until there is a new licensing deal (i.e. with Criterion Third Man).

On the flip-side, there are titles that go OOP, but remain in stock for a long time afterwards.

For instance, I know fairly definitevely that these two titles are OOP. Kino Lorber emailed everyone on their mailing list a few weeks ago of a a "last chance" to buy those titles (along with a bunch of DVD's), that they were leaving the collection. They are now gone from Kinolorber.com. To me that is pretty definitive that they are OOP. But you wouldn't know it by checking Amazon.

Short Circuit appears OOP but Short Circuit 2 is still readily available (but possibly OOP as well). Bullmoose is the last place I was able to find it in stock and got a packed for shipment notification, so jump on it there if you want it... Only one left in stock

Region free import is available on Amazon.ca for less than CDN$18 shipped from a third party seller.

Arg, I wanted that eventually, just because I saw it 100 times as a kid. Hopefully it comes out again, I don't want to rush right now to get a Canadian copy.

Amazon Canada still has it in stock, if you don't mind the bilingual cover.

New to this thread, and great work.

I see in the OP that the Ultimate Editions of all Harry Potter films are listed.

What about the regular version of Sorcerer's Stone? Or the Double Feature of the Deathly Hallows?

Just wanted to mention that Caligula is on the list 2 times in the OP. Same version, about 5 titles apart. Sorry to nitpick but thought you might want to know.
