Oh aye, I'm not disputing that the original games were much more than titilation. It's just the general perception of the games and conversation around Lara seemed to constantly default to her norks.

Oh, I know what you mean. It doesn't really happen nowadays but in my early teens, anytime I told folks I was a fan of the games, they immediately assumed I had a hard-on either for Lara or for Angelina Jolie.

And I thought I was the only one, who appreciates Angel of Darkness.

Sure, it was flawed in ways, but it took risks. It tried too many new things at once. I'm sure most flaws would have been gone w/o Eidos being involved and basically breaking Core Design. If I remember correctly, they split Core Design up. One team had to rush Tomb Raider 5 for PS1, the other limited team had to rush AoD. Thanks Eidos. PS2 PAL version of AoD was actually very well playable. I think it's the least glitchy version out there. Soundtrack was so awesome.

I would have been so interested in how the story was planned out, but nope development passed to Crystal Dynamics and that was it w/ competent writing.

Eidos couldn't even let them create their own Anniversary edition, nope.

I was crazy enough to buy the Korean edition of Tomb Raider 2 (the movie) just for the included Angel of Darkness content (Making Of, Trailers, etc.).

Not only that, but everything about it is badly designed + "written", I even have a problem calling it "writing".

I mean those "friends" of Laura for example (the ones that Laura obviously gives a shit about). They could have made it that Laura kills people and her "friends" see blood splattered all over her and go "what the hell are you doing? You killed humans? You are sick". You know, how actual humans would react in that situation. They could have made at least that bit interesting and actually "realistic", but nope better keep it in silly video game land instead.

That's so laughable about those pseudo-"realistic" games nowadays. Effectively nothing about them is actually realistic. They go for over the top violence and that's it. That's what they call realistic. A girl/woman killing thousands of men, yeah, right totally realistic. Even 5 men wouldn't have a chance. This alone should force the game into a stealth + sneaking only game to actually be realistic. Keeps you from falling down ledges. Doesn't trust you to actually be able to climb properly, so marks ledges for you. They even give you regenerating health, although the games before that didn't and thus were actually more realistic than that. The game treats players like little children.

Some things kill you outright, other times you fall from 5 m and it's basically "ouchie". It's laughable and makes no sense at all. The original Tomb Raider was consistent in those things. At a certain height, Lara died. Always. There was no "but this is a cutscene, so it doesn't happen now lol".

Exactly. That's the reaction I received back then, hehe. So I'd pretend as if I wasn't a fan. It saved having to explain why I liked the character and the adventures she found herself embroiled in, and that I wasn't a fan because of her jugs. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not crying about guys being guys and having a laugh about their urges, etc., it's all good as far as I'm concerned.

Daisy Ridley Being Considered for Lara Croft Role in Tomb Raider Reboot
By Spencer Perry on March 10, 2016

Daisy Ridley being considered for Lara Croft role in Tomb Raider

A Tomb Raider reboot has been in the works for some time now, with writers and directors boarding and abandoning the project over the years. Now it seems that the film could be moving towards an actual production, as Deadline reports that Warner Bros. and MGM are making a list of potential Lara Crofts, and on that list is Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley. No conversations have been had and Ridley is among many other actresses being considered for the role.

Ridley is currently in the middle of production for Star Wars: Episode VIII, with Star Wars: Episode IX set to follow not long after, so the actress’ timetable for another adventure franchise could be slim. Check back here for further updates on the film, and Ridley’s potential involvement, as we learn them.

Director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) is set to direct the film from a script by Transformers 5 scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

The original Tomb Raider was published in 1996 by the London-based video game company Eidos and became one of the most successful video games of the time. A reboot of the series, telling the origin of Lara Croft, was released in 2013 and sold over 5 million copies. The most recent game, titled Rise of the Tomb Raider, is available now for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

Paramount Pictures previously made two movies about the daredevil archaeologist on a series of global missions. The films, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, starred Angelina Jolie and grossed a combined $432 million at the worldwide box office.

I'd love Daisy to do Tomb Raider, the moment I saw her wall climbing in one of The Force Awakens featurettes I thought she'd be perfect.

Awesome news! I hope this pans out.

BTW, anyone into fitness, here's Ridley training for Star Wars. Apparently, she's kept it up after filming was done because she enjoys the fitness lifestyle. Respect!

Alright, so I've always said that Emily Blunt would be the perfect Lara Croft, but Daisy would be an excellent choice for a younger version of the character. Yep, I'm all for it!

I may be in the early minority on this one but I'm not really feeling her in that role.

I guess she doesn't have a commanding enough presence for me. Lara Croft needs to be, not only tough and can handle her own, but needs to do it in a dominant, commanding, confident way... I don't know if she has that about her... she is tough and scrappy, kind of in a "cute little sister trying to keep up with her big brother" kind of way.

Time will tell, maybe she will change my mind in Episode 8 & 9

That was her role in Star Wars, and she's an actress. I personally disagree with your early minority opinion.

I now can't picture anyone but her in this role.

Awesome choice, she's going to be busy though with Star Wars, possible TR franchise and any other roles she takes.

Ridley doesn't strike me as a Lara Croft. She's great in Star Wars though.

So, in order for it to be good writing, you feel like Lara should be criticized by her friends for killing to survive? They're stuck on an island with a crazy cult that is sacrificing some, and killing everyone else, and in one sequence, allegedly interested in raping Lara. Yet it's crazy for Lara to fight back? You really think any SANE person would be upset with Lara for that?

By the way, for such a big fan of the series, it's very irritating that you can't even spell the main characters name right. It's LARA. Not Laura.

Terrible choice, she looks nothing like LC, dare I say...not hot enough plus I don't get that tough vibe from her in any way.
