Hmmm, that might explain the "painted-on" look to some of the overlaid cgi explosions mapping down.instead of being blindingly bright and overexposed like one would expect. Now, i'm very curious to see if the Panny handles this differently. |

I don't see a Dynamic mode in settings..never mind found it under tools..it does make the picture look better..now if only I can get through a movie without it going off I be happy

Have any of you guys tried playing the Blu-ray version of one of these movies in this machine? Call me crazy but I actually think the upgraded Blu-ray picture looks much better than the 4K UltraHD version! I just tried both versions of San Andreas and the difference is absolutely amazing!! Contrast, color, clarity, and detail all look better on the Blu-ray compared to the 4K. I was having tremendous trouble trying to get the UHD picture to look good. I couldn't get rid of the hazy, cloudy look that it had and nothing I did to try to correct it, worked. The contrast just didn't look right and I was very frustrated, but when I popped in the Blu-ray version, I couldn't believe how much better the picture looked! Has anyone else discovered this? It's almost like the HDR on the UHD disc messes everything up.

I found it bruceames..Thank You..I'm watching 'the Martian..looks great...Mars terrain looks stunning but to be honest I put a 1080 blu-Ray in player and it looked just as good..put in Casino Royale ...so I guess it does upscale 1080 up to 2160

I only use dynamic for HDR though. Otherwise it looks too saturated. HDR tends to darken the picture more than other mode so I use dynamic to compensate for that so that it brings the overall brightness on par with the other modes (such as Cinema Pro on my TV for watching regular Blu-ray).
I don't use the Sammy player for regular Blu-ray because I prefer the Oppo and the TV upscales better anyway. But if I were to use the Sammy player for Blu-ray then I would set the output to 1080p so the TV does the upscaling. I've compared and I could tell the Sammy player does seem to apply a DNR filter and the details are not as fine. Probably does the same thing with UHD content but unless the UHD content is 2K I don't want to have it in 1080p. I'll have to check that out later (to see if I get the same results as in Ray's pics above). |

Hi blu...I was going to wait till Sony came out with thier 4K player but I think they aren't coming out with one until next year..I would say to you if your like me and you have to have 4K movies now I would say get it but if you can wait then wait because they are only going to get better and all the kinks will be worked out

Fellows, I personally don't own the K8500 but reading the manual from the official site:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...00-ZA_1203.pdf On page 52, the "Resolution according to content type" option is clearly explained. Forcing to 2160p will force the TV to Will let the player upscale regular 1080p movie to 2160p. Forcing to 1080p will downscale 2160p UHD movies to 1080p (might look sharper because of conversion and enhancements). The only correct option to play UHD-BD is Auto which should set the TV to the correct settings depending on the content. While we're at it, the only correct setting for the TV range with a Player is YCbCr or Auto, never RGB (16-235) or RGB Enhanced (0-255) unless you use the TV as a PC monitor. ![]() Last edited by James Freeman; 03-12-2016 at 08:46 AM. |

Yes, forcing to 2016p will upscale 1080p content in the Player before sending it to the TV.
Actually the best option is "BD Wise" which simply passes the picture to the TV without messing with the picture. |

BD wise only works on Samsung tv...I am finding I have to change the settings on a disc by disc basis..I had it on dynamic for 'the Martian and Spider-Man 2 in 4K and that looked great but then I put the blu-Ray casino royale on and picture was blown out..I had to put it to standard because it's a very bright movie

Yea, those extra settings work much better with the 4k discs than 1080p discs |
