i had an ipod touch (the 8g in fact) and i thought that while it was a great looking package it lacked in a lot of areas. if you're dead set on getting an ipod i would go with one of the classics. the touch needs a lot more work before it can be considered truly great. the second biggest feature, wi-fi capability, sucks big time. it hardly ever works. even at hot spots where it's supposed to work. so in the end all you're left with is a media device that has touch capabilities. and when pitting it against some of the other products out there on the market it starts to pale. that wi-fi capability is key for the touch and it's crippled severely.

not to mention the price is a rip off. you could get two zunes for the same price as an 8 g touch and have way more than double the space. and believe me i don't knock the touch. i'll admit that i can't stand apple and its products, but when i heard about the touch and saw it i was floored. i had to have it. it just never really met up to my expectations. space is a huge issue for me and the touch just can't cut it in that area as well. i hope they work things out though cause if they did i'd consider buying another one maybe.
