It doesn't look like a bad subwoofer. NHT actually makes good products. Don't concern yourself with numbers and specification as they mean nothing for a subwoofer. Out of all the speakers, a subwoofer intreacts the most with the room boundaries and you end up hearing the room. This model is passive and does not have a built-in amplifier. However, it does have a crossover to send signals to the satellite speakers. I have a few passive subs and they sound excellent.
You have two options. One option is to connect it to your system as srrndhound suggested in post #3. The other option is buy a subwoofer amplifier (does not have to be very expensive) and connect an RCA cable from the LFE (sub out) of your receiver to the new amplifier and run two speaker wires from the amplifier to the subwoofer. You can optionally connect two cheap resistors from Radio Shack to the speaker outputs on the subwoofer. I prefer option two. You can buy good amplifiers at reasonable prices from Parts Express. http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....ctGroup_ID=505 http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....=756&sm=1&so=2 http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search Last edited by Big Daddy; 10-05-2008 at 02:29 PM. |
