Nice collection!

Best Buy had a deal on getting the Eps. 1-6 steelbooks for around $74.98, which broke down to about $12.49 per episode. The deal expired pretty quickly, since I'm pretty sure people were going the online route to ensure getting all 6 in one swoop instead of the potential hit and misses at the B&M stores

Watched last night. As other have posted the PQ is awesome, but the overall sound is underwhelming. I also felt it was similar to Avengers: Age of Ultron. Really lacks dynamic range for most of the film. The only exceptions were the escape from Jakku and Kylo Ren using mind control. Too bad, as it was my favorite film from last year and sounded awesome in both IMAX theaters I watched it in.

Hopefully the eventual UHD version has a beefed-up ATMOS soundtrack that will remedy the issue.

Really? I played this on my main system on Sunday and thought it was extremely engaging.

Yes, but Disney owns LucasFilm, and Disney plays a big part in a lot of the decision making now. I'm almost sure if Disney didn't like something, they'd probably ask for some changes before the final movie was released in theatres. Happens all the time to all movie companies.

I had the same issue with one tooth being broken off the first spindle from my Amazon order.

It isn't terrible, but definitely not reference material like Interstellar or Pacific Rim. I actually had to turn up my receiver's main volume a few clicks just to get a satisfactory level. With movies like those referenced above, I'm turning down the volume several clicks to not shake the rest of the house.

Disney has been neutering their soundtracks as of late. Last one under their control that really impressed me was Guardians of the Galaxy.

It seems a little dumbed down compared to the previous six movies. It just seems to me that Disney attempts to appeal to the masses, so the humor and action can appeal to young children and adults alike. It almost seems like the writers wanted to give fans a sense of nostalgia instead of taking the new movie to a whole new level, I can't really give examples without spoiling some of the script.

This is just an opinion based on the first hour. I'm sure I'll get a lot of hate for having an opinion, but remember, I have not stated that I dislike the film. I'm just not enjoying it as much as I had hoped I would.
As someone had already said, it was a Lucasfilm product and not Disney. But seriously, you pointed out something similar to what happened with another franchise that JJ Abrams was instrumental in rebooting/revitalizing-Star Trek. A lot of the same comments regarding the "this is just a rehash of the original x episode" was thrown around pretty heavily when Star Trek 2009 was playing. The one thing I'll say for Abrams, despite the lens-flare jokes and whatnot, is that the man had the burden of handling two of sci-fi's biggest franchises and bringing in newcomers to a franchise that was largely embraced by a lot of hardcore fans with an ardent fervor so I'll give props where its deserved. Its tough to try to keep both new fans and old hardcore fans appeased, but Abrams seems to have pulled it off.

I say, let the man direct a Ron Moore written Galactica movie, or a Joss Whedon written Firefly/Serenity movie

Pacific Rim is reference??? it's LOUD, but not reference. way too much clipping baked into the master coupled with a drastic 30hz filter on the LFE

So I actually pre-ordered the Target exclusive packaging way back when I ordered 'Mockingjay Part 2'...then I also pre-ordered the Best Buy Steelbook on April 1.

I ended up getting the Steelbook the day before the street date (Monday), and the Target one I just got today (Wednesday). Crazy how that works out, but I'm not mad about the shipping.

I am kinda bummed about the Target exclusive packaging though. I got excited when I first saw the pics of it because it looked like (and I could have sworn I read that it was) a Neo Case...but it's just a crappy cardboard double-gatefold. :/

Way to pull out all the stops, Target...ya cheap bastards, you! *shaking fist!*

I'm kind of burnt out on this movie after seeing it once in IMAX, once in 3D, and twice in 2D at the dollar theater. It's still playing, too. I do kind of want the WM slip, though, and so I may cave in and buy it this week.

I see the point of that side of the argument, and they're very valid. But I still think the new Star Wars film was heavily influenced by Disney, and their ideas and decisions, even though it was a LucasFilm movie. I truly doubt Disney just sat back and said to LucasFilm, "Here's the keys to the car, drive as far as you want."

From promo pics I thought I would like the Target the best and Wal-Mart the least. It's the exact opposite, so I got the steelbook in the middle, cuz I had BB gift cards and no others mostly, and the steel does look good. I just like the WM slip way more than I thought I would. Nice touch on the mini gatefold. I was stunned when I went to Target and picked up a copy of theirs and it was so light and flimsy feeling. Reminded me of the "There Will be Blood" dvd, which I also hated the packaging of.

I think this movie was a smart play. You have to remember that 1. Its the first movie in a trilogy and the main focus of Act 1 is always character introduction. and 2. This is the Starting point of a new era of Star Wars. I think showing some reserve and not throwing everything at this FIRST movie was a very smart decision. This movie is more in line with Ep 1 and 4. We don't even know what the overall main plot of this new trilogy is. In Ep 1 the villians were the Trade Federation. I think in Ep 8 we will really see the true direction Disney / Lucasfilm is taking.

Re-watching it over and over for decades to come.

Just wanted to throw that out there. It's surreal.
My wife (probably soon to be ex depending on how she wants fate to play our story out) always thought my love for Star Wars was some sort of immature fanboyism that I should "outgrow" someday. Star Wars was my FIRST theatrical sci-fi movie, being 6 years old at the time and the opening scene of a small Rebel ship being fired upon by a huge Imperial Star Destroyer as they raced across the screen forever changed my perspective on what movies and entertainment in general was. Yes, I bought all the Kenner toys I could get my hands on. Yeah, I revisited my love of LEGO as a kid when the LEGO Group acquired the Star Wars license oh so many years ago. Yeah, I get giddy opening up a box of Cheerios to get the special glow-in-the-dark sticker to slap onto something. Do I feel embarrassed about any of it? HELL NO!

A lot of the newer generation, who have been spoiled on the end result of what Star Wars brought to the table and challenged the sci-fi (and possibly a portion of the movie industry) genre to up its game always seem to not acknowledge what Star Wars did with just its initial film. But being we're sliding into the phase where the younger generation seem to think that the Colin Farrell Total Recall, the recent RoboCop, or even Mad Max: Fury Road were the ONLY movies made, the disregard or ignorance of anything that has outlived its 15-minute moment of fame is quite common

*End of soapbox rant* LOL

Yes, yesterday was a big special day for me

Maybe reference isn't the correct term. But it is a film I used to throw in when it first came out to show off my home theater to friends/family. I just wish the Star Wars Blu-ray could have the same effect.

I want this Blu but I don't think I am gonna pull the trigger until the 4K UHD version is released, hopefully within the next 14-16 months. My source is The Digital Bits on that 4k UHD. I've spent a lot of moolah on Star Wars buying multiple versions and copies, those days are gone...

I'd rather see Joss Whedon directing a Joss Whedon written Firefly/Serenity movie and I suspect Joss Whedon would share my preference, as well.
