Nobody can say that I don't take care of business early. I just placed an Amazon pre-order for...
A Kiss Before Dying 99 River Street Shield for Murder Hidden Fear The Chase Dark Passage Try and Get Me Here's to some awesome film noir arriving in my mailbox over the next couple of months. Try and Get Me is $13.99 on Amazon right now, and that's pretty good for an Olive title. 99 River Street, Shield for Murder, and Hidden Fear are $16.49 apiece on Amazon right now, and that's about as good as it'll get for those, I'm thinking. They always mark down the Warner Archive titles before the big day, so I'll probably get discounted price off of my pre-order of Dark Passage before it ships. I still haven't pre-ordered the Criterion Blu-ray of In a Lonely Place, but I'm hoping to use one of my 20% off coupons with Barnes & Noble to order it on day one with a discounted price that they usually have for the new releases online. I'll be ordering the Kino Blu-rays of Cry of the City and Road House closer to date. |

I am also going to just go ahead and pre-order the two Flicker Alley noirs for release day. I'll do my bit to give them good early sales as an incentive to release more. Last edited by oildude; 04-15-2016 at 04:59 PM. |

I'm glad that you reminded me. I pre-ordered those from Flicker Alley a couple of months back, but completely forgot about them.

Also have In a Lonely Place pre-ordered. Film noir, especially a title like this that I have waited on for years, is something I will buy early from Criterion without waiting for a sale to come around. |

I know this is a film noir and perhaps neo-noir thread for blu-ray releases. But I recently rewatched my DVD of After Dark, My Sweet With Jason Patric, Bruce Dern, and Rachel Ward and wanted to pass on a recommendation for a really well done neo-noir that has not made it to blu-ray. I watch this and Narc and wonder why Jason Patric never quite made it to the big time.

Love this thread. Really love the genre although I don't have a lot in my collection I am trying to remedy that.
Need subs or CC for anything I watch so I really like it when you guys post movies and say whether they do or do not have them. Bogart is my favorite in this genre. |

Screencaps for the following noirs are now available at DVDBeaver:
Try and Get Me A Kiss Before Dying The Chase All three look like strong transfers. Considering Olive apparently didn't use the Film Noir Foundation's restoration for Try and Get Me, it looks quite good. |

![]() ![]() Last night, I (finally) watched my Olive Films Blu-ray of Man-Trap. Man-Trap was released in 1961, and, as such, qualified as a post-noir in this thread, but I found to to be pretty much as close to a classic-era film noir as can be. The film was directed by noir stalwart Edmond O'Brien, and it has a perfect noir-esque feel of the walls closing in around someone who has turned down a wrong path in life due to circumstances. When Matt (Jeffrey Hunter) saves the life of Vince (David Janssen) in the Korean War, Vince promises Matt that, whatever money he makes in life, he will give half of it to Matt. Years later, when Matt is beset in a trouble life with his marriage to the alcoholic (and really really sexy) Nina (Stella Stevens), Vince shows up with a tempting deal. If they can hijack over a million dollars from a Central American dictator, then they'll both be set for life. Classic noir trouble ensues. The Olive Films Blu-ray hits all of the right spots, although I would love for a subtitle option to have been included. Last edited by The Great Owl; 04-20-2016 at 11:12 AM. |

So I watched my first Twilight Time blu-ray.
The Big Heat. My first viewing of the movie. Excellent. Glenn Ford and Lee Marvin were great. The entire cast was. Very pleased with this purchase. Never would have bought it if it didn't have subtitles. Kudos to you TT. I thought the picture quality to be very good, almost as good as my Twilight Zone set. IMO that set is the benchmark for B & W on blu-Ray. I have decided to drop my Directv. Other than football I only watch two shows prime time. I can wait for DVD or streaming. I figure for what I pay every month I can now buy 4 TT releases. So not only building a quality library of excellent films but something that has value unlike a TV service which basically has no value. Thanks to all here. Reading your posts about the quality of TT releases is what made me decide to pull the trigger. Looking forward to more Noir titles for my collection. |

Warning: do not import the French blu-ray of M (1951). The French subtitles cannot be removed. It also features overdone DNR, resulting in a waxy appearance.
It looks like those of us in the U.S. will need to wait for a stateside release. |

There should be a stateside release of M (1951) coming in 2016 from a well-respected label, according to an associate of the family who owns the film.

I watched The Big Heat today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fritz Lang sure knew how to make movies. Glenn Ford's great in this, too, as is Gloria Grahame. I might just have to pick up the Twilight Time re-release at some point. (Is the best place to get that release on the Twilight Time website, or would another site give better deals? I've never purchased a Twilight Time title before.)
