Mullholland Drive has a unique way of putting across its narrative, but as a film, once you know the secret, it makes total sense. Lynch's films tend to fall into a few camps... pure surrealism (Eraserhead), hyper emotionality (Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Wild at Heart, Elephant Man), scrambled narrative (Mullholland Drive, Lost Highway) and complete ineptness (Inland Empire, Dune).

I recently picked up the Criterion version of Mulholland Drive. While one of my favorite films of all time, it had been 10 years since I probably last watched it. Now I have an itch for more David Lynch.

I already have the Twin Peaks BR boxset, Blue Velvet, and Eraserhead. I want to know what is the highest quality versions available for Elephant Man, Wild and Heart, and Lost Highway? (I'm not interested in Dune.) They need to be Region A or free as I don't have a region free player.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the current top quality versions of those three titles? Has there been any rumors Criterion will be continuing their Lynch releases and putting stuff out later this year?

Wild at Heart has a limited edition Twilight Time disc, but it's sold out and goes for high prices.

For Wild at Heart, you can import Universal's German or UK release. Both are region free, and the PQ/AQ is virtually identical to the out-of-print TT release.

I've got the Australian Lost Highway which is pretty good. Not sure if there's some other release since then that trumps it, but it's decent and makes a great double bill with Mulholland Drive.

There's a UK Elephant Man too, which is very good. Just looking around, there's a UK Lost Highway too.

Lost Highway, Straight Story and Elephant Man all available in Region A thru Amazon Japan. I ordered these along with Barton Fink and Match Point (Woody Allen) a while ago. Total cost today would be $US 63 + approx. $17 shipping. Shipping high but is air mail and very fast. Even with shipping avg cost per disc still only $16. Packaging mostly in Japanese but discs play just like a North American release.

Good to know. And the PQ is good on those releases? I'd also probably pick up Inland Empire.

Pretty sure the French and German ones are 1080p. Well the German one certainly is anyway. I think the French one is slightly better but region-locked?

Amazon Japan copy shows 1080p on back cover.
