Pachter at it again playing Captain Obvious. I mean really, how the hell do you make a career spouting off the obvious like he does (or on the flip side being so completely wrong)? Can I be paid to say people need air to breathe or that water is wet?

Wii was a massive hit and 3rd party support was terri-bad. https://pietriots.com/2010/12/17/the...wall-of-shame/ 3rd parties instead supported the PS3 no matter what, even right from the start although it sold like crap not for a few months, but for years. Wii U at least has managed to get all sorts of proper indie support, which are 3rd parties too. Nintendo changed all sorts of things, even before the Wii U launched - I guess they anticipated those great "unprecedented partnerships" with the bigger publishers. For example on other consoles developers have to pay basically a crazy amount of cash, when they want to push out an update. No idea if that's still the case for PS4+Xbox, but it sure was and still is the case for PS3 + 360. Nintendo changed that to 0 bucks. Yeah, it's free for devs to push out updates on Wii U. And I guess also on 3DS. That's also why all sorts of stupid bugs are never fixed on PS3. Because it simply costs an arm and a leg. It seems NX will be able to run all sorts of mobile games too. And I assume with buttons, which means all sorts of games will play best on it. Think about how silly it is that for example Rockstar couldn't be bothered to for example port their PS2 GTAs onto Wii (their engine was already running on Wii, used by Bully), but mobile phones were good enough for it ... without buttons. lol This way the NX will be able to run those games too. Yeah, think about Wii without the superb and fantastic 3rd party support. Oh wait... Last edited by jimidini; 05-03-2016 at 09:52 PM. |

PS3 = 811 games Wii was not lacking 3rd party support, it was lacking quality in its 3rd party support. Gamers complained about lack of 3rd party games with the Gamecube and Nintendo reacted by lowering their quality standards by allowing tons of crappy indie games to be released on disc. PS3 almost bankrupted Sony. |

The PS4 is completely dominating this generation but even that console hasn't really improved Sony's performance all that much due to it's other poorly performing product lines. |

More rumors that the NX won't have a traditional disc drive (ala CD, DVD, BD), but instead will utilize higher capacity carts/cards similar to the 3DS.
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/more-...ndo-nx/0166530 This could potentially be a really good thing IMO. The cost of flash memory has gone down a lot over the years. They can easily have cards that meet or exceed the capacity of the BDs used by the PS4 and Xbone. This would likely allow the games to be read directly off of the cards rather than needing to be installed, so that the issues of hard drive space that are a concern with the PS4 and Xbone won't be an issue. Also depending on how they handle this, it would be awesome if they could allow dlc for the game to be saved directly to the card rather than in some kind of separate system memory. And if they were to allow it to be tied to that copy of the game rather than the console, it could make playing the game on another console (if something bad happens to the one someone already has to start with) much, much easier. It would also make it easier playing the games on a console at someone else's house, etc. I know all of this is a huge "if," but if it does pan out this way, and if 3rd party companies support the system, I could see opting to get the games on the NX over the other two systems (both of which I already own). |

Admittedly that is the one thing that I wouldn't be thrilled about would be the lack of backwards compatibility. But if that is in exchange for the potential advantages that I outlined in my last post, I can live with it.

Why cant the system have a DVD for Wii U/wii games AND a SD card slot for NX games?

The capacity and data transfer rates are a plus, I'd still expect £40+ prices for new releases. Like the last time this rumour came up, it makes sense if they are going to have some sort of handheld hybrid cross over that both systems use the same media, obviously discs aren't ideal for handhelds, so carts are the way to go. |

Simple! Because Nintendo isn't going to add unnecessary cost to their console just to have backwards compatibility for a system that only has a 12 million userbase. I really think Wii U owners need to let go of hope that NX will be backwards compatible. I just don't see that happening. Nintendo needs a hard "re boot" and start from scratch, building their userbase. The best thing they can do is disassociate themselves from the Wii U as much as possible.
