That would be poor timing on their part since A Hologram for the King was released theatrically last month. It's also a limited release that doesn't look like it will expand all that much, so a promotional tie-in is even less likely. It's already come and gone from my local indie theater.

Idk what kind of Best Buy store you're talking about because all the ones I have seen and heard of still have sections of movies and tv shows. Even CDs.

I've read that some Best Buys have pretty much phased them out entirely. The one I go to (Modesto, CA) still has them but the sections have noticeably dwindled over the years, and the selection has been getting smaller and smaller.

Well I'm glad they are still in tact where I live. If that's the case.

7 digit SKU means that it's an in store item, but availability isn't dependable. Some stores might get it while others don't. Stores might get a title, but not on release day, and it might show up later during a promotion. With all that said, I'm expecting these exclusive titles to be in store on May 24th. I recommend getting to the store ASAP because I don't think they'll have a lot of copies to go around. |

I can't imagine a Best Buy store without the movie section. I probably would have no need to ever go to BB if that happens. But it gets me thinking that sooner or later all physical copies of movies and music will be gone from all stores completely. That makes me sad.

I think they based it on sales. I've noticed some stores near me West Hollywood and Burbank have a large selection, while some like Woodland Hills it is cut down quite a bit. If sales are strong enough they will support it more than those that aren't.

While the physical media sections have been dwindling in general, CDs have gone faster around me than the BDs and DVDs. The CD section that was multiple aisles in 2011 is pretty much just one aisle at most locations around me now. In my experience, pretty much only good for buying the big recent releases of the last year or so and then classic best sellers. |
