This sounds interesting but again its NBC!

Quote:
‘Timeless’ Time Travel Drama From Eric Kripke & Shawn Ryan Gets NBC Order

Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan’s time-travel extravaganza Timeless, which had emerged as one of the strongest drama pilots at NBC, has landed a series order at the network. It completes a sweep of the time-travel broadcast pilots this season, with all 3 going to series, including drama Time After Time at ABC and comedy Making History at Fox.

Timeless, directed by Neil Marshall, was entangled in tense negotiations between producing studio Sony TV and NBC, which, like ABC, insists on in-season stacking rights for all new series. The studio also has The Blacklist spinoff, whose pickup is pending, as well as Cruel Intentions, Timeless - Season Pilot which also had been in contention.

NBC is loading up on genre-themed dramas for next season, with two out of the four new hourlong series picked up so far, including Timeless and the supernatural Midnight, Texas. The other two are ensemble dramedy This Is Us and the Chicago Justice legal procedural, a spinoff from the Chicago franchise.

Timeless, starring Matt Lanter, Abigail Spencer and Malcolm Barrett, gives David Entertainment a third broadcast series for next season, along with the renewed The Blacklist at NBC and Dr. Ken at ABC. The company also has The Blacklist spinoff in contention. Here are details about the new NBC series:

TIMELESS

From Eric Kripke, Shawn Ryan and the producers of “The Blacklist” comes this thrilling action-adventure series in which a Timeless - Season Pilotmysterious criminal steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America as we know it by changing the past. Our only hope is an unexpected team: a scientist, soldier and history professor who must use the machine’s prototype to travel back in time to critical events. While they must make every effort not to affect the past themselves, they must also stay one step ahead of this dangerous fugitive. Can this handpicked team uncover the mystery behind it all and end his destruction before it’s too late?

The cast includes Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Visnjic, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit.

Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan wrote the pilot and executive produce alongside John Davis, John Fox, and Marney Hochman. Neill Marshall also executive produces. “Timeless” is produced by Davis Entertainment, Kripke Enterprises and MiddKid Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television

Timeless is from Shawn Ryan. Unless it's called The Shield, it won't survive a season.

Meanwhile, Damien probably gets renewed. It's cable and most cable shows seem to get two seasons.

I was thoroughly enjoying/anticipating Game of Silence/The Family each week!

Why do they continue to cancel well done tv shows(at least the ones I enjoy!) & who are these viewers/ratings people that the networks continue to listen to anyways !

There are more then 18-49 yr. olds that watch tv you know!!
Why is this demo able to control all of tv watching?

It's mainly for advertising purposes, hagios. Madison Avenue loves the 18-49 crowd and use TV to sell their products (most of which you don't really need).

Evidently that demo is inclined to spend the most.
I agree. Every May I lose a few great(IMO) network shows, while mindless reality tv thrives because it costs pennies to produce.
It's to the point where I might just DVR entire first seasons, of network shows just to see if the get renewed. If they get cancelled, delete it is!

Limitless expected to be cancelled. Not official though.

Criminal Minds : Beyond Borders, Code Black and Odd Couple are expected to return.

No news yet on Rush Hour, although it's likely dead as well.

My most favorite actor, Matt Passmore of The Glades, sadly had this message to write at his Twitter page earlier today:

Unfortunately our Paranormal pilot is not to be. Wish you guys could have seen it. Huge thanks to the crew and an amazing cast #haunted

God bless you and him always!!!

Holly

P.S. I believe that the show was supposed to be on the CW network. Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but can it not be pitched to other networks?

It's a very dated system on how TV Networks estimate how many people are watching their TV shows. I think approximately 10,000 families have the Nielsen box and they use those families to create estimates on who is watching the shows. That's why the viewership numbers published in the media are only estimates and not exact numbers.

They want you to watch the shows live with commercials. That's how the bills are paid and how the networks afford to buy the shows.

However, more networks are looking at streaming numbers via Hulu, on demand and through the network websites. And even DVR numbers as well. With DVR numbers, the increase in viewers has to be significant. For example Quantico and Shades of Blue picked up 65 to 80% more viewers with DVR numbers factored in. But, they are only counted if they are a Nielsen family.

Foreign viewers who torrent the shows or watch it on their country's own TV Network don't count. Only U.S. viewers.

Very few TV viewers nowadays in the U.S. are watching their shows live the night it airs. More are watching it through streaming platforms, tablets and laptops. That's why I said the Nielsen system is very dated. But, it's the primary way networks show the advertisers who is watching. If only 50 Nielsen families are watching The Family and Nielsen estimates that's approx. 2M viewers, the show is screwed.

I believe the term is Live/+7, which is the date a show airs, plus the next 7 days it can be viewed. This accounts for DVR and streaming.
Nielsen ratings is one of the most flawed systems around. Why does everyone place so much faith in it? Because Nielsen is literally the only game in town.
I can only hope going forward that cable/satellite providers can start harvesting their own, more accurate, data.

Yeah, I'm going to be VERY selective this fall in picking new shows. I'm tired of everything getting canceled. I already watch enough, so I'm not trying to add much of anything else. Very sad undateable is gone and grandfathered. I love John Stamos. The Grinder I never really cared for (but still watched for Rob Lowe) so Idc that it is gone.

In the past shows have been pitched the next year.

Take for instance the cancelled after one season Second Chance at Fox it was originally pitched over a year ago as The Frankenstein Code.

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that if they pick up, probably it premieres in October. Let's wait and hope they pick it, I would be really disappointed if they don't.

I really can't fault most of the cancellations that have been announced so far.

Many of those shows were extremely poor ratings performers, including the FOX comedies that got the axe.

Sure, some of the shows that got the axe were good, but you can't keep airing something that no one is watching. It's a business and they want hits, not so-so shows. Many of the shows that got the axe weren't even "cool" water cooler shows that people rushed to talk about.

I know it pisses people off when you make such a large time investment for multiple shows from September to May. But, most new shows fail. That's the reality. Older shows get more expensive and sometimes have to end because they aren't financially beneficial to make anymore.

30-35 years ago when there was no DVRs, No on demand, No Hulu or Netflix, many shows got 25-30M viewers per week. Watching TV in the 80s and 90s was appointment television. Families got together and watched their shows live and that's why ratings were huge back then.

Now, people are watching TV at their own schedule and there are very few shows that people watch the night it airs. Unless it's sports or a heavy water cooler show like Walking Dead or Game of Thrones, very few homes will make their shows appointment TV.

I know many Millennials and college kids don't even own TVs and just stream the shows on their tablets, phones or laptops. I think the broadcast networks have been slow to adapt to change for the 21st century and they can't seem to figure out a more advanced and accurate way to measure who's watching. NCIS is one of the most watched shows on TV according to Nielsen. I think it gets anywhere from 15-17M viewers on a good day. If it aired 30 years ago, it could easily get 30-35M. The 15-17M doesn't take into account those who watch it on demand or stream it off CBS's website because they don't have the time to watch it Tuesday night live.

35 years ago, I believe it. The viewing options were so much smaller. Nowadays you've got so many viewing options, which is another reason I believe Nielsen's ratings methods are far from accurate.
Oh well, it is what it is, I guess.

Exactly. What many don't seem to get also is that the TV viewing audience is so fractured now.

30-35 years ago, there was only CBS, NBC and ABC. FOX came around 1987. Very few options and that's why ratings were extremely inflated back then.

Now there's a crap load of options, which are overwhelming to many. Now you'll be lucky to have someone willing to commit to watching 5 to 6, 22-24 episode network shows.

The President of FX said a few months ago that 400+ scripted shows aired in 2015 including all platforms. Not reality or competition, scripted. That's an overwhelming amount of content. I bet less than 20% were actually hits.
