DO NOT change your PS3 to "bitstream" as you will not get lossless this way. The PS3 can't bitstream TrueHD or DTS-MA, it can only decode and send via LPCM so you will never see the DTS and Dolby lights on your receiver if you continue to use the PS3 as your Bluray player.

If you do change it to "bitstream" then you will only be getting the regular lossy DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 (but the lights will come on).

I have the same receiver and it rocks.
The PS3 decodes it there is no way to shut it off. So you do get the lossy sound its just already decoded by the PS3.
I just wanted to see my light come on so I knew that I had it set up right, but that will never happen using a player that already decodes it.

im purchasing that receiver hopefully in the next month or so and was curious about this also, since I currently own the ps3.

will the new standalone sony and panasonic blu-ray players show dts-ma on the receiver correctly?

what should I look for in the specs to make sure the player will do this?

Thanks

Look for a player that can bitstream Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA to the receiver. At this point almost every new standalone player released will support bitstreaming of the advanced audio codecs to the receiver over HDMI. The new Sony and Panasonic players will bitstream to the Denon.

You have a very nice A/V reciever,I would get the matching Blu-Ray playing Denon DVD 3800BD it decode and bitstrean all audio. If you need 2.0 or Ethernet go on line to see what Blu-Ray player work for you (http://www.idoblu.co.uk) . I have the Pionner Elite SC09TX A/V reciever and a Pionner Elite BDP-95FD Blu-Ray player and it bitstrean all audio. It importance to me to see the bitstrean.

I have a 4308 and the ps3 decodes just fine. Don't waste your money just to see the words pop up on your receiver.

Actually, I sold my PS3 about a week ago, and bought a Pioneer BDP-51FD. I never used the PS3 for anything other than a Blu-ray player anyways. I find that bitstreaming to my receiver, I get a little clearer (to my ears) sound. I feel it's because my receiver has the hardware to decode the codecs and the PS3 uses software to decode and send out PCM. One thing I do know, I don't have to turn the receiver as loud now to get that clear (to me) sound.

That is one Great looking receiver. I have one as well, it's my first major HT receiver in my life (several Yamaha lower ends in previous years).
This one does a great job has just about everything I will ever need and then some. Far more power than I would ever need or use. I tried it once with a couple sonds and I broke things on shelves. They fell off (obviously due to the Sub), but the whole soundfield was spectacular and loud, it chased the 9yo out of the room.
I also use the PS3 with it. No cpmplaints. just use LPCM and you have an all in one. Unless you are some guru with super vision and ears (not intended as a slam on anyone, I'm just an average guy (well above average to my wife ) with average vision and ears), then they will do exactly what you want with no problems. Play your music streamed over the Denon or copy your music to the PS3 play Divx and other video files web surf CD/DVD/Blu-Ray all with one piece of equiptment.

Glad to see others have this unit and are happy

P.S. Ditch the Sticker, things are so much sexier without the Mole on their face (Molemolemolemole)

I plan on getting this receiver and I'm wondering if anyone knows how to remove the feature badges that run along the bottom. I just want the conceal door to be black like the rest of the faceplate.
