Well I guess I'm done ordering from Amazon.com. It was a good 10 year run or so, that I've been ordering from them. From now on I imagine I'll just go to my local Futureshop and buy all my purchases in-store. VERY disappointing non the less. Now I have to get the stupid bilingual language Canadian BD! AHH! Oh well, nothing I can do....

I totally agree with you! I hate the stupid bilingual packaging in Canada.

It's bad enough that we've sacrificed not receiving movies on the day they come out (having to wait a few extra days due to shipping), but to now charge an extra fee no longer makes amazon.com a competitive place to purchase movies.

I've emailed amazon.com letting them know that they've just lost a loyal, long time customer due to this fee. I suggest everyone else do the same. Power in numbers...hopefully the see how much business they'll lose and reconsider.....hopefully....

They will not do anything. Their main custoemrs are US and us canadians probably dont even touch 5% of the sales. Canadians can only purchases movies and books from amazon.com.

Amazon also has their amazon.ca and as long as they stay competitive with local canadian shops, they will get sales. Which they do as they often offer $10 coupons and other discounts on their already cheap books and at times movies as well.

i think that's their point. amazon knows they'd make more money off us canadians if we were to use .ca instead of .com, they're trying to heard us to .ca.

what they haven't gotten thru their thick skulls is that even though amazon.ca has competative prices relative to futureshop/bestbuy we're still only willing to purchase online if it offers significant enough savings to offset waiting for the mail.

We are a frugal bunch always looking for a good price. That's why we have been waiting for deliveries from the USA (which usually weren't much slower than free delivery from Amazon.ca).

It's VERY rare I see a compelling price from Amazon.ca. It's kind of crazy that FS/BB regularly beats them.

Has anyone compared the US version to the CA version by any chance? Apparently it looks like it was lowered due to the fact the CA version also offers a French DTS-HD HR 7.1 track and a Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 track. I will also agree with that 16 bit version sounded fantastic for such a very old movie. And I too got the bonus dvd from Futureshop as well as the animation cel.

Anyway back to the thread, so we can't use slow ass Canada Post for shipping anymore eh? So even if we opt for that slowness we still get hit with import taxes?

I understand using expedited services (FedEx, UPS, DHL), but for Canada Post that's incredibly lame.

EDIT: Back to the Sleeping Beauty thing, why the figs did we get a Spanish dub? I understand French for Canada, but Spanish? The Americans didn't even get Spanish on their version of SB.

Seems to be that they are calling this a "deposit", so they'll refund it later on if there isn't any tax duty to pay. I have an order arriving tomorrow, so I'll see.

Thankfully I got it with free shipping to make up for my previous order not arriving. That one had one movie less than the new one too! So even if there's an import tax, it won't be so bad.

But I'll have to buy elsewhere, maybe tower.com? I definitely need to buy from the US, I hate bilingual packaging (and I'm French Canadian; by trying to so desperately cater to me, they actually fail and lose my business), and just thinking that I may get a box with a Canadian bar code when my other films have an US one repulses me.

Minus the percentage the credit card company and the bank charges for TWO currency conversions.

Still haven't received the movies (it's shipped since 5 days, which is usually the max it takes), but I assume they would have processed a refund on the deposit by now if it was needed. For shame.

My order shipped yesterday and should arrive on Thursday. I'm hoping nothing has changed for orders placed before Oct. 15 like this one of mine was.

Well, I have placed 3 orders with standard shipping in the last two days and none of them have a fee added. Switzerland is on the list and they changed the text to include standard shipping. I always make sure my orders aren't over 50$ so I can avoid import fees. Maybe they adjust the fee-threshold for each country according to their import rules.

I have ordered well over 200 Blu-ray from Amazon.com over the last two years, and I've never seen anything like this, nor have I been charged any kind of import fee, duty or tax on any order by anyone in the US or Canada.
That certainly stinks. Is it for each item or just a flat fee?

Per item and based on price (and maybe weight). So for a $80 set the fee is a lot higher than for a regular $28 movie.

Packaging looked the same and it came to you via Canada Post?

If so that sounds promising. Was the order placed before oct 15?

That's good news then for all my pre-orders. The 23% exchange rate on my VISA for my order this week is the worst part of it all though. It's only worth it now since my orders were B2G1.
