Fritz Lang's You Only Live Once (1937) is a good one.

True. I was pleasantly surprised with how different these two are as well. Something I can't say for "La Chienne" and "Scarlett Street"

Fixed.

(TWICE came 30 years later and was decidedly not a noir).

This is kind of interesting, but I don't get TCM. Comcast wants me to pay another $30 on my bill to add that channel.

It got me thinking about other films that are technically pre-noir but still decidedly noir in their plotting and themes (not necessarily aesthetically).

The Mabuse films and M came to mind first, but what others qualify?
The French Poetic Realism films of the 30's were a hugely influential precursor to what became Noir. You should definitely watch Port of Shadows, incredible film and has all of the fatalism that Noir would have. La Bete Humane is also very good. Haven't seen LA Chienne yet but very much want to as soon as possible.

Sounds like my daughter's cable. She said TCM is bundled in with some sports channels she's not interested in. Here it's included with the basic cable package.

PRIVATE PROPERTY (1960) now has a street date of October 11, 2016. I've never seen it, but it looks like a "suburban noir" film, in the same category with LOOK IN ANY WINDOW, KITTEN WITH A WHIP, and LADY IN A CAGE.

PRIVATE PROPERTY and HARDCORE (1979) will make my year!

Finally got my copy of Kiss of Death. I wonder how the Twilight Time will compare since it is supposed to be from a new 4K scan, and this one appears to be from the DVD master.

Another noir announcement today: Douglas Sirk's Lured (1947), starring Lucille Ball, will be making its way to blu-ray via a double feature release with A Scandal in Paris (1946).

Great! There's a rebroadcast on TCM on August 23d. Now maybe Kino Lorbor or Signal One Entertainment needs to release Lucille Ball's other Noir film, The Dark Corner.

I considered picking this up but decided to wait for the Kino release since it has the Eddie Muller commentary track.

I'd love to pre-order this but $50 is just too much. I'll eventually get it from Deep Discount when they have one of their sales.

More Sirk is always a good thing. I'm sure it'll be lower soon enough.
