As someone who has watched episodes of classic Doctor Who projected, you really don't want to do that.

You do realize that the Olympics is seen in every county in the world? that's the real world, during Rio de Janeiro time, not DST, Doris Standard Time. It would be impossible to please everyone across the world because of the different time-zones. Rio doesn't give a toss whether your eyes are slightly puffy when you eat your Wheaties the next morning.

And midnight screenings are usually great they get attending by fans, not the masses, they're there to appreciate the film and take part in the experience with other fans.

Believe it or not, I actually more or less agree with you.

I used to go to late night/midnight screenings more when I was younger. I actually remember back in summer 1999 a local AMC theater was showing older movies at midnight on the weekends. I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ferris Bueller, Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy there that summer.

And I would do it for then-new movies, too sometimes.

But even then, I would only do so if I knew I could sleep in the next day. I wouldn't want to go to a midnight screening then have to be up first thing in the morning for school or work.

These days I just find the idea of midnight showings far less appealing than I did roughly 15 years ago, so I almost never go to them (I can't specifically remember the last time that I went to a movie that late at night). And if I ever were to go see a movie that late again, you can bet your ass I'm going to make sure I have the next day off of work.

That said, if I were running a theater, if there is a demand for midnight screenings, I would still accommodate that despite my personal preferences.

I know. I think they should come up with a compromise time rather than just 8pm in that country's time though. The same follows for our Olympic Opening Ceremony. Midday perhaps would have been the most agreeable UK time.

Doing it when you can sleep in makes more sense.

Agreeable UK time may not be agreeable time for another country. Olympics are a world wide deal. Our countries timezones mean zero.

I feel enough of a zombie as it is going to sleep at half past midnight and waking up at 9am so I dread to imagine how I'd feel going to bed at 3am like some do after midnight showings of movies.

I've already said that elsewhere. I think 10:00pm and two hours as opposed to four would have been more convenient worldwide than midnight in our time.
You're 20, so what do you do on a Friday and Saturday night when the clubs are closing at 4am?
By the sounds of it I don't think you've experienced an actual hangover.
You need to get your day-glo gear on and whistle and give it some large, mate.

Modern Olympic openings have always started off around 8pm it's the ideal time to start as it's the gradual way for natural light to fade. You get two spectacles, a daylight opening and the grand finale of lights and fireworks when it gets darker. Convenience outside of its host country should no way have anything to do with it.
For us (the UK) to receive a 10pm broadcast start time, Rio will have to start their opening ceremony at 6pm. Their budget can only stretch so far and as a ceremony is usually done in one go, they can't afford to fill in those extra 2 hours of expensive entertainment until it starts to get dark. It makes sense to have the show that bridges the day and night in one shot rather than an overly long show or intermission between the two, it just complicates things.
The world may measure off our Mean Time but it certainly doesn't stop for us.

12pm our time would be 21:00 in Australia, 8:00am in Rio, 7am in Australia, 13:00 in Paris....

All more watchable times than midnight.

Just DVR the Olympics and watch it later if the time is inconvenient for you.

That would make a great thread topic.

Can't we create a separate thread and have it transferred across?

Ghostbusters (2016)

Domestic Total as of Aug. 2, 2016: $109,624,118
Distributor: Sony / Columbia Release Date: July 15, 2016
Genre: Horror Comedy Runtime: 1 hrs. 48 min.
MPAA Rating: PG-13 Production Budget: $144 million
Get local showtimes at IMDb

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $109,624,118 68.0%
+ Foreign: $51,705,399 32.0%
= Worldwide: $161,329,517

$161 million worldwide is actually respectable, but not good to earn back the $150+ million budget to make it and promote the film. If they could've kept the film $100 m and under, things would be more positive for the box office.

I remember $70 million was an average budget back in the early 00's.

Only about $339 million more worldwide to break even.

That's true that they have to pretty much double their budget in ticket sales to break even since theaters take a good cut of the box office. I don't see a sequel happening unless they lower the budget or sell a lot in home video. $288 worldwide would've been better.
