What are your best looking UHD Blu-rays?

Checked out Joy, looked a lot better than I thought it would particularly for a 2k upscale. The uhd trifecta is in full effect here - improved detail, color and range over the bd. It doesn't quite make my top 5 however I'd place it somewhere in my top 10.

I chose them because they had perfect blacks on my LG 65E6P and did not have to mess with the brightness settings.

The Martian, Enders Game, Both Star Trek movies, and Hitman Agent 47 all had elevated blacks at times. Unacceptable for OLED. Star Trek Into the Darkness was most disappointing with elevated blacks in the IMAX space scenes. Absolutely no reason to screw up CGI black levels, other than lazy and rushing it out to the market for a quick sale.

i completely agree about the elevated blacks in Star Trek 2, i noticed it right away and had another oled owner confirm it for me. i checked the regular blu ray and the blacks were very inky looking in the same scenes. ive actually seen this on wayyy too many 4k blu rays with elevated blacks.

Yes, colors, hdr, and detailed resolution are top notch. But there's a few of those raised blacks. I still consider it to be near reference though. Though we later learned that none of it was true 4k.

The raised blacks in STID were difficult for me to notice but I agree, they are there. The most noticeable on my end was near the end

there is a fade to black transition into the hospital room, in the BD the fade to black screen goes completely dark, but in the UHD it does not.

You know, i love UHD for one thing. In the UK we finally got Ghostbusters with the original movie poster cover. Just the logo with a black. On DVD is was a slim green, on Blu-ray is was a weird Blu and now in the UK it's the original black like it should be

Ray, since you've experienced 2 different HDR displays, would you say that your top 5 are the same regardless of the display or would they change?

Amazing Spider-man 2.

I've seen 6 other UHD films. While they are improved over BD, I feel like the ones I listed are in a class of their own compared to the rest.

I'm impressed with the remixed Atmos/X tracks though. Star Trek, Man of Steel, and ID4 are quite the upgrade compared to their BD counterpart.

But yes my top wouldn't change based in display. But there are some movies that look noticeably better on my ks9800, such as mad max. (Technically they all look better lol), but the brighter and more colorful highlights in mad max have more visual impact with my ks9800.

Some have complained of the high black levels of some 4k transfers.
(The Revenant, Batman vs Superman, Into Darkness) In these films you have to choose standard or dynamic mode instead of movie mode on your display settings, particular for OLED's are they go so deep in black levels yet are nowhere near as bright as some Samsungs.
I myself tweak both the Display and the even the Samsung UHD K8500 player.
For example on Revenant I set my Samsung JS9500 to Dynamic mode, bring down backlight to 14, brightness to 45, and select cool tone.
For Batman vs. Superman I used the same setting on my display and also select dynamic mode on my Samsung UHD k8500 player.
Believe you me it makes a huge difference.
For years I had my previous display set calibrated and would view all blurays on my set calibration. At the moment that won't work on all 4k transfers, as the studios and Directors can take advantage of a much wider color gamut and HDR impact. That being the case we viewers may have to tweak as we go.
