He loved Warhawk but also had a number of issues/choices he didn't like and let everyone know where and when it was going off the rails...so if he says it rocks I'm more inclined to believe him myself. My son enjoyed the beta so it's on his xmas list..not my kind of game even though Warhawk was. AFAIK they just released another patch that wasn't part of the review. |

If for some reason you're not going to get the headset (a must in my book), you can probably get a used copy on the cheap. TONS of people bought the game just for the headset.
As for the 4.5 rating hahahahahahahah. Look, it has some issues, but I'm happily playing 3-5 hours a day (like I did with Warhawk). The servers seem to have stabilized. Some of the issues vets have I don't, because I'm new to Socom, so I don't care if it's like previous PS2 games. Right now, I'd like to see: 1. Ability to follow friends into rooms without needing to use game invites or XMB. Not a big deal to me, but would be cool. 2. Continued effort to strengthen servers. Now and then I'll get a little lag for a couple seconds. Nothing major. 3. Trophies. These are coming. 4. Stats fix. I left my made up clan to join the real one and my stats went to -5 games played and 4,900 teamkills. ![]() Socom and Warhawk are very different. Socom is a tactical shooter (skill) and Warhawk is an arcade shoot-em-up with ground/air. Honestly, I almost passed on Socom when I heard about beta complaints. I'm glad I bought it on release day, because it's given me many hours of fun. Can't wait until I don't suck. ![]() |

Glad I waited a few days. Got my first game in last n ight and not a glitch in sight. Took me a few matches to get used to the controls but I forsee lots of SOCOM gaming this winter...
Loved the customization I could do right out of the gate. |

I don't have any boot issues at all and lag is 99.8% not there now. I did have a couple lag instances (2 seconds) today, but I played for about 7 hours, so that's not bad.
I give the game a good B+, but I understand that Socom vets will be upset for this or that reason. For newcomers, it's great. I'd like to see trophies added of course and perhaps nightvision that stays up when I sprint AND doesn't alter my view from classic to sucky over the shoulder. ![]() I'm not a stats person (fun first), so the fact that the stats are messed up doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm guessing they could be reset when trophies come anyway. But reviews are garbage anyway. Play the game and decide for yourself. |

There's no auto-aim, no showing where everyone is on the map, no shooting someone 40 times to kill them, etc. You can just stand there holding the fire button (I know, I've tried it many, many times). Of course, you can find rooms that feature RPGs and respawn. I actually recommend these to get started, so you learn how the game functions. |

Here are some of the items planned for the update. Please note that some items listed may be delayed to a following update if additional development is required beyond what our schedule for the 1.30 update allows. This should not be considered a guarantee that these items will be in the 1.30 update, but we did want to give everyone a heads up as to what is on our plate currently. New Features * SOCOM Awards and PSN Trophies * DTS audio support * Add HUD and scoreboard opacity * Scoreboard invocation improvements (tap select for persistent scoreboard, hold for temporary) * Spectator mode HUD turns off after brief interval * Spectator camera look now respects user invert on/off setting * Spectator camera pan now consistent with in game camera * Add dive-to-prone * Add lean control to d-pad * Gear items stackable * Extend post-round period * Restrict RPGs and grenade launchers in ranked rooms * Increase prone movement speed * Adding support for lefty control configuration (analog stick functions swapped) * Increase frag grenade effectiveness * Prevent incorrect reload interruptions Bug Fixes * Fix animation issue when prone rolling near certain objects. * Fix remaining issues with statistics gathering and display * Fix bugs related to equipping of C4 in breach mode * Fix occasional audio drop outs * Fix last remaining framerate hitch when other clients late join * Fix remaining stability issues * Fix hostages being affected by smoke Of course there will also be many additional smaller fixes included in the patch. Please watch this spot for updates as the patch moves through development and into QA/verification/deployment. We are also hard at work on an additional patch which will include the remaining community support features. The design and art teams are also making great progress on new content- based on some of the posts in the forums, many of you will be very happy with what is coming down the pipe. |
