Wii motion controls weren't a gimmick. No one utilized them as well as they could have been. And if they were such a gimmick, then why did Sony and MS copy them? |

I am so sold on this thing. There is so much potential here. One thing that really excites me is the merging of development between the handheld and console space. No need to have some teams working on exclusive handheld games and others with exclusive console games when you can have them all work on the same device. That will give us much less time between exclusive games than we had with Wii U. I absolutely love this idea and i love how straight forward it looks. Damn good job Nintendo. Now hopefully developers stick around.

To cater to Japan (mobile) and everyone else (home console). It's absolutely brilliant if you think about it. They also cut down on development costs by making one version of a game that supports on the go and at home. This thing will sell well and sell well worldwide. It deserves to.

It's funny how people can't grasp that this is a home console. It is also a handheld console. For many they will use it as both .
For people who simply must have only a home console that is exactly what you are getting! It even has a proper controller too! People who only want a handheld. This is exactly what you get. Happy days. There really is no downside to this as far as I can tell. There seems to be an answer here for every kind of gamer. It isn't held back by performance,at least that's the way it seems. Just look at the Shield. It's games run better than most PS360 games and this is using some sort of improved Tegra chip which should suggest even better graphics. I wont hope for PS4 or Xbox One level graphics but I bet it'll be hard to spot the differences in the real world. |

IDA with you there. The motion controls were a gimmick. Sony and MS copied them bc they thought that was where the market was going to go in bc of Nintendo's early success with console sales. They were chasing a large crowd of gamers that traditionally didnt game. Ultimately it was a fad that ended up being a big bust and Sony especially abandoned it early on |

Because by doing this Nintendo is taking care of two markets with one product. Seriously how is that so hard to understand? For one thing, this is going to accelerate game development significantly because Nintendo's studios only have to worry about developing games for one platform instead of two! The days of the abnormally long dry spells between game releases will be over! That is huge! Second, the seamless functionality of playing your games at home on your TV and then taking it on the go is a feature that the competition does not offer! That's not a gimmick! That's a real, practical application that offers significant benefit.

It isn't a gimmick. it serves a purpose and keeps nintendo competitive by snowballing every market in to a single unit. People who want to upgrade their 3DS will get it people who want a new nintendo home console will get it. Nintendo can't lose. |

This may come off as selfish, but I hope Nintendo cuts the cord on the Wii U and 3DS very soon. Release what they have planned and make nothing new for them. Just focus on this thing. The 3DS is already pretty underpowered these days and the Wii U is on life support.
I also hope they port many of the Wii U exclusives. The system sold so little overall that many people missed some great games. Sent from my LGLS775 using Tapatalk |

No offense dadaluholla, I think you've fallen victim to your own expectations. What did you seriously think Nintendo was going to show? A 500.00 console with 6 teraflops? Nintendo would get killed in the market with something like that. With the Switch you're basically getting a PS4/X1 that you can play at home or on the go. Plus the added bonus of playing Nintendo's great exclusive IP's! Seriously, what's not to like?
