I really don't understand these re-releases that are worse than the original release. Does Universal expect anyone to buy this?
From Manlymovie.net:

"The identical contents of the previous disc, minus outtakes and a trailer. So not only are they blatantly repackaging a release that was deemed lazy by 2010 standards, they’ve actually removed features that it had!

The transfer here is horrible, one of the worst, if not the worst Blu-Ray transfers I’ve ever seen. It’s at least eight years old. It’s muddy, vague and with noticeable sharpening overkill that tries to compensate for the mess that it is."

Yeah, well I guess I get to save a few bucks. Just out of curiosity, was the last UK version the same as the original US DNR version? Or is it the Attack Pack "slightly better" version?

It's the sh1t version.

Correction, the sh1ttest version.

The 'anniversary' wave I see as a very cynical marketing exercise. Fanfares around The Breakfast Club and Apollo 13 remasters and then the likes of Weird Science, Gladiator, Tremors, Casino and Gladiator slid in the back door under the same banner, giving the impression that they're remastered as well.

I'm glad I read this thread I was wondering what the anniversary release was like, I had the HD DVD it was edge enhanced to high hell it looked like someone had gone round the image with a black felt tip pen, I have the current Blu-ray release along with the sequels but I can't remember if it was the same transfer or not. 5 is out this year so expect another box set, I prefer them all separate either way.

Did anyone get the new anthology set this week?

It's unlikely but I'm still hoping for a decent version of Tremors.

Would be nice if it included the slightly better "Attack Pack" transfer. But the fact that with that available from '13, Universal UK used the old '10 transfer (basically same as '07 HD-DVD) for the 25th Anniversary release last year, I wouldn't be surprised if this anthology release includes the old disc too.

I'd love to be wrong though.

If it's true what it says in the description, that this will be a 5 disc set, then I think it's most likely that they're just repackaging the old discs they had left as a part of a set.

The Attack Pack set from USA was at least produced from scratch exclusively for the Attack Pack set where they put two movies on one blu ray disc. And because they had to produce all new discs, this is probably why they took the time to re-encode the first movie and give it a slightly better presentation with film grain.

It's a shame Universal has no interest in creating a decent special edition, I'm pretty sure SS Wilson, Brent Maddock and Ron Underwood would sit down to record a new commentary. I spoke to them all at length for my book and they still hold a great affection for the film (well, all the films bar number 5).

The US edition of Tremors 4 got a Wilson commentary, but nada on the UK version.

Tremors is a classic, and deserves far better treatment than it actually received. I want a decent edition.

I'd crawl over broken glass to get a new Shout special edition, it's a prime candidate for exactly their brand of cult oddities and it desperately needs a new transfer.

"for my book" as in your wrote that? It was a great read. Almost feel bad for buying the kindle-version and only paying $3.99 + tax for it.

The only time a feel Universal went "all the way" regarding Tremors was the Signature Edition of the LaserDisc. Tremors is one of the very few movies I have bought on VHS, LaserDisc (twice), DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray (twice).

The US Attack Pack was good, but far from great. Someone who cares™ needs to release at least the first one.

Ugh god, I hope twilight time aren't allowed anywhere near this. I think it's more likely that shout/scream will release a decent edition.

Yeah, that's mine - glad you enjoyed it, hope you learned a few things about the films.

I've owned various versions, including iTunes, but it definitely deserves better treatment. Perhaps if Tremors 6 or the Bacon TV series are a success they'll come up with some new boxset at some point and do a few new extras (suspect not though).

Does anyone own the 5-movie anthology release and can comment on the Tremors disc, whether it's the same low-quality release as before? It's only £12.99 at Amazon at the moment.

Default new 6-pack = silly frustrations

Just thought I'd tack on to this thread instead of starting a new one.
I just received the 6 film collection from Amazon.uk and though it arrived unscathed, I'm a bit miffed with one item already.
Each disc is on a separate hub, not stacked, which is great and all are region free BUT each disc has so many "age warning" symbols on them (no joke, SIX WARNINGS PER DISC!) that there is no room on the discs for the titles of each film!
You need to match up the small picture at the top of each disc with the one on the back of the amaray slip sheet to determine which film is which...
This is bloody frustrating to the point of being hilarious.
I have yet to begin watching, so not sure of release quality put out by Universal but hopefully they're good.
I just shake my head at the inanity of such foolishness.

I've got several European Universal discs with no titles on, it means they're not going to offend anyone by putting an English-only title on the disc art. Warners do this a lot as well, I still have trouble discerning which disc is which in the 8 disc Superman Anthology.

Ha, I was thinking exactly the same thing. They all just have various photos of Christopher Reeve as Superman, making it impossible to tell them apart. I couldn’t believe it when I first opened it!

I put little stickers on the disc holders it annoyed me so much. Only issue is if someone swapped the discs around
