These are Japanese releases but it's worth pointing out that only Resident Evil Damnation is available in 3D. There is a standalone Japanese release:

I have it in a double pack with Resident Evil Degeneration (which is 2D only, and region free):

You can find them on ebay and Amazon but neither release is cheap. The Japanese title is Biohazard Damnation. Sadly the disc is locked to Region A, both the standalone one and the one in the double pack.

I'd agree with that, I found Hybrid more fun as a movie because it knows it's stupid, but Bait has better 3D.

The Japanese "stand alone" (Region A locked) Resident Evil: Damnation Blu-ray 3D release title is biohazard Damnation.

What the13thman and Paul H said.

I picked up mine from eBay. The double pack price hovers around $99, but I snagged it because I saw one for $79. The standalone should be much cheaper.

And I agree: this has better 3D than most animated features released in the U.S. What sucks is the story for Degeneration is better (to me) than Damnation, but it's still okay, as far as Biohazard goes.

Picked a used Chainsaw Massacre 3D for $4.99 with slipcover.

Don't know much about this reboot, but it might be good for something different.

I will have to keep a eye on eBay and see if I can find one, thanks for the info.
I picked up ice age collision course for cheap on eBay and was surprised that I like it after some people saying it was not very good. The story was average with some funny moments but the 3d looked great to me with good depth and it looked like alot of stuff sticking out or real close to the edge of the screen on my oled.

I just watched The Legend Of Tarzan in 3D.

It's past midnight and I'm feeling lazy so I'll start by saying I pretty much agree with everything in levcore's impressively comprehensive review (though I find Margot Robbie easy on the eyes, so she didn't bother me):

Quote:

Margot Robbie's character is horribly written and has absolutely excruciating dialogue throughout and her accent and performance just doesn't seem to fit the era the movie is set in. Also the CG is still a real mixed bag. A lot of the background stuff is OK (apart from the jungle stuff) but the main FX are far below what we would expect from a summer blockbuster and a movie that apparently cost around $180 Mil. I don't know what went on with the fx but they are just not up to scratch. However since my initial disappointment I have come around to the visual FX in this and accepted them for what they are.

It definitely feels like there was a longer, better cut of the movie and that it got hacked down quite a bit. I think the big problem this movie has is that as soon as shooting finished David Yates buggered off to do Fantastic Beasts so wasn't around for post production! This is crazy to me that a director essentially 'didn't finish' their movie properly and left it in other hands. I think this is the reason for the poor VFX, ie the director isn't around to oversee the CG work and give approval or not. Also I think this is why the movie got chopped down from being much longer, because the director once again isn't around to put his foot down and insist on his cut.

I did read an interview with the cinematographer Henry Braham that supports all of this:

"Interesting. I saw it with David Yates in Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago, and he said, “It’s more of a movie now than a film.” And I know what he meant. What he meant was it’s become more two-dimensional. So whether that’s a Warner decision or how that’s come about – actually, David’s probably somebody who’s not pushed around too much – the journey the movie’s taken is actually a lot of scenes, a lot of the layering of drama has been taken out of it, and you pretty much go from A to B pretty quickly. Now when you consider the market for this kind of entertainment, it kicks off on 8,000 screens in China, it’s big in Russia, you get it. You’re talking to such a broad cultural spread that maybe you see the argument for that. I think if you want to make something really personal, you’re going to have to be super-powerful and committed and prepared to take a big box-office bomb if it doesn’t work. Or you do a smaller, more personal movie, which may be a lot more interesting as a film but is not going to have the same outreach as a piece of entertainment."

So whilst Yates may not have been happy with the edit of the final movie I think he only has himself to blame for going off and doing another project rather than actually finishing this movie first.

Anyway the big drawback's are Robbie, Waltz's very average villain, CGI and editing.

That aside this is a rollicking adventure fantasy movie with some exciting and well staged action, large scale, a good sense of adventure and nice 3D. I love these kinds of movies and I guess I was expecting a lot more than what we got but to be honest, in retrospect what we got is very entertaining and I really loved rewatching it last night.

The 3D comes across so much better at home (I was very critical of the 3D in the IMAX). I don't know whether it's just me or whether it really does look vastly improved on blu ray but there are loads of really nice 3D shots, a few fun pop outs (the ostrich head, Tarzan swinging towards the screen in the train scene, the beads from the villain's necklace popping out towards camera to name three) and good depth throughout. I am much more pleased with this movie second time around.
I think the PG-13 rating is a big drawback as well as the dodgy CGI, editing, accents and stock villain. The film was entertaining enough but felt utterly bloodless despite numerous fights, shootings and animal attacks. A brief shot of someone getting trampled just wasn't enough to satisfy the gorehound in me.

The 3D was nice, a few medium-strong pop outs and a lot of mild ones that really helped the depth. I didn't feel separation was particularly strong, but that may have been down to it all seeming a bit murky. It's not a colourful film at all. The desaturated overfiltered look of it serves to work against the 3D, much of the film is greeny grey blue but a lot of shots look very green, a couple of times I thought Tarzan and Jane looked like zombies - I don't usually have to fiddle with my preferred TV settings, this was only the second time I had to do that.

A benefit of the 3D though is helping sell, or at least place, the bad CGI. I'd hate to see what this looks like in 2D. I'm glad I watched this in 3D, though next time I will start it on a different picture setting. I have to say however that overall I prefer Tarzan (I'd love to have seen a live action version of that)...

I agree about the rating drawback, the fact that the legend of tarzan got a PG-13 rating instead of an R rating is beyond disappointing, the fact that this movie severely watered down the violence is just unacceptable, i also agree about the CGI as well, like the very iffy CGI in Black and White: The Dawn of Justice, some of the CGI in the legend of tarzan is very iffy, they look a bit suspect, but it helps in 3d

You guys summed up The Legend of Tarzan well. I differ slightly in that I rather liked Margot Robbie as Jane. She was headstrong, proud, beautiful, and ahead of her time in that she preferred native Africa to Victorian society: all things that would have melted Tarzan's heart. The weak script and messy editing scuppered an otherwise enjoyable film. I also thought the 3-D was too often underwhelming. It sprang to life quite a few times, most noticeably during the action scenes toward the end, but it was generally a bit of a let-down. A middle-of-the-road conversion. Considering the superb visuals on offer, it should have been a lot stronger than this.

Overall, a solid movie with decent 3-D. Could have been better, could have been worse.

Over all a mixed bag there was some parts that I did not like then there were parts that just made me laugh out load. The 3D was good. I would pick this up after it goes down in price.

I bought yesterday Star Trek Beyond 3D and Independence Day Resurgence 3D. I watched ID:R 3D last night. The 3D was good but needed to be in IMAX 3D as in the Transformers Age of Extinction 3D Blu-ray that I have would have improved the 3D in ID:R. It should have had some of the 3D effect stretched out of the screen more in some shots. Star Trek Beyond 3D I have yet to watch.

Watched a few over the last week.

Boy the 3D in this was great! It had pop outs and depth. Towards the end a few of the popouts were in the gimmicky category and seemed to trade depth headroom to provide them. The story was about 15 minutes of plot dragged out into about 1 1/2 hours by way of Tom & Jerry action scenes. The set pieces and characters had a lot of potential for the 'Pixar' treatment, but it really fell short. Although a terrible movie overall, I did get to give this away in the most excellent way. I had the bluray sitting near my front door so that I would remember to add it to my donation pile. It sat there for a day and then my wife and I were rushing to answer the door for the first wave of Trick or Treaters and it turned out to be a boy by himself and so my wife grabbed the bluray and dropped it in his bag along with a candy bar. That boy was stunned LOL, but ran away happy.

In preparation for the new one. The 3D is fine, but lackluster. Its one of those ones where I couldn't possibly watch it in 2D yet can't really praise the use of 3D either. Movie is a visual treat and well done IMO.

3D is okay, does go a little too flat in a few scenes which distracted and irked me. The story was good for both adults and kids and I did laugh out loud a few times. Overall a good 1 and done, will probably never rewatch it. If only I had watched this before Halloween

Lately I had gotten in the mood for some classic era native shot 3D. Some of the best 3D around. A lot of the 3D studios put out now a days are pretty good but are still not as good as when shot with actual 3D cameras.

I watched X-Men Apocalypse in 3D, having previously enjoyed it in 2D.

The opening credits led me to think that maybe the 3D would be more adventurous than it was in Days Of Future Past and overall it was, but only a little bit. Interior shots were often framed to show off impressive depth and the effects worked better overall (bad greenscreening excepted) but much more so towards the end, 3D really enhances the scale of the action. I was very pleased to spot a few quick pop-outs here and there too (the shipping container was my favourite) but none were sustained, blink and you miss them.

I have to give Bryan Singer credit for shooting in 3D, but no credit for his conservative style, there are countless opportunities in the film for something to come out of the screen that are just thrown away. There is mild pop out of faces, shoulders etc but everything is generally being kept behind the screen other than a few quick pop outs. That usually means that if a scene isn't particularly deep you tend to forget you're watching in 3D. It's real 3D, so it looks far better than 2D of course, but not much better than your average conversion these days.

I could watch this kind of stuff all day every day though.

After being ambivalent towards every single X-Men movie up to this point I was pleasantly surprised by Apocalypse and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's my favourite X-Men movie now. Apart from as you mention some ropey CG/ green screen work it's pretty awesome from start to finish. The 3D really impressed me too.

Sounds like you just recommended it to yourself. If you like Warcraft and you like 3D, why wouldn't you want to watch the 3D version? It's typical of modern conversions in that it doesn't have much to offer lovers of pop-outs but the depth, separation and volume still make it a superior experience compared to watching it in 2D.

Finally watched star trek beyond 3d. I really liked the movie but, I am pissed at the 3d conversion. Don't get me wrong, it's serviceable with a couple of high points (old town, and outward shots of the enterprise) but, this movie should have been ooozing with 3d richness... It felt like it was trying hard as hell to improve its converstion but, just couldn't break free... Paramount should consider a relaunch box set containing all 3 with star trek getting the 3d treament, and trek beyond receiving a remastered 3d treatment. They should at minimum match star trek into the darkness. I consider 3d as the ultimate token of appreciation for our honest support of the movie genre. Fill makers makers are recouping hundreds of millions off of our double dip (pay to watch then, paying to own), the least they all can do is thank us with supreme converstions... Furthermore, I feel american consumers should never have to import an american movie. I really DGAF about you comes to mind everytime I see a non-US 3d release of a US movie. Terrible...
