Argh. I just bought this at FYE (old 2008 version) and may not bother to return it now since it was the lowest common denominator in a used promotion and only ended up being $1. But having an inferior version irks me a bit.

I really like this movie but I have the old version. Tempting to upgrade since Amazon dropped their price.

Wall Street Documentary: "Greed is Good" wrong aspect ratio?

It is window boxed which should be fine but, the image looks squeezed, as if it is supposed to be 1.85:1 but, is squeezed to fit 4:3. Usually when watching something in the wrong aspect ratio I see the opposite where 4:3 image is stretched to fill 1.78:1 screen.

I hate both distortions & prefer OAR for everything.

Update: Same squeezed image on Wall Street Never Sleeps: Making Of Documentary.

I just finished watching the Filmmakers Signature Series Blu-ray of Wall Street. I've seen this movie a couple dozen times during my life, and am pleased to report that this particular Blu-ray is the best transfer of the film that I've seen.

The Blu-ray picture quality of Wall Street is pretty crude on a surface level, but any imperfections are inherent to the source. The site review of the initial Blu-ray release is probably an accurate reflection of this reportedly improved disc as well, because Wall Street, while ultra-modern when it was released in 1987, was never a shining example of filmic beauty.

There are a lot of movies from the late 1980s that I love dearly, although the inherent picture quality of these movies is underwhelming at first glance. Wall Street and Predator are two such films, but I do not think about the picture quality while watching them, because they're both awesome movies in every other regard.

Question Wall Street Double Feature - which version of original?

Sorry to bump this old thread, but does anyone know if the new Wall Street Double Feature that was just released last month has the older 2008 version of Wall Street, or the better re-mastered version from the more recent 2012 release? Also, does it contain any Bonus Features from the original Blu's, or is it just the bare bones movies? I only want to order it if it's the re-mastered version and still has some or all of the original BFs, so if anyone knows, please chime in!

Just a heads up for anybody who is considering buying the Filmmaker's series through Prime Time Deals fulfilled by Amazon, don't do it.
They are shipping the old Wall Street blu-ray.
Amazon is in the process of refunding my purchase, and they appear to have dropped their price down a bit, though still not quite as low as Prime Time Deals. So, for anyone considering purchasing the newer Filmmaker's series through Amazon, be sure to skip Prime Time Deals, and order directly from Amazon.

For anyone interested: I bought the Signature Series edition on January 16 and it arrived yesterday... with a shiny slipcover!!

I bought it directly from Amazon for only $8.99 and it's still being sold at that price.

PS: Don't buy it from the merchant sellers that are selling it slightly cheaper, be wise and buy it directly from Amazon.

The re-master definitely looks better than the original 2008 release. The 2008 edition is soft and faded.

Apologies if this has already been answered- is the version that comes with the white "Fox Icons" slipcover the 2008 disc or the Filmmaker Series disc, and is the version that comes with the 2-pack collection the 2008 disc or the Filmmaker Series disc?

Can someone tell me if this 2013 Region 2 german release contains the new restored version or is it a repack?
I got the german Double Feature and it contains the old BD.

One of my favorite flicks. I actually think the Oliver Stone approved Signature series transfer is pretty solid

Amazon reviewers say, when they say anything, that it's the old version.

No word on bonus features, but I have to assume that they wouldn't bother to press a new version of the old transfer but without any extras, so I'd assume it would have the old extras for the first one (most of the bonus features overlap between both versions, the new version just has a better transfer and one extra featurette). Then again, one reviewer claims it's a pan and scan release; I doubt that, since the guy who is most vocally complaining did not mention it, but it's possible. My guess is that the pan & scan complainer was expecting both films to be in 2.35, when the first one is properly transferred at 1.85.

Thanks. I deleted the post you were replying to because I just bought the double feature anyway.

haha, oh well. It's not like you were the only one asking

When you get it, please do come back and confirm, for the other people who are asking, it's always better to have first-hand info for these sorts of things.
