I converted 3 people so far.

2 are now PS3 owners, and 1 a standalone BDP-S300 (Not sure why he didn't wait for the 350 like I told him to)

My small town doesn't want to spend much money... and I don't want to recommend cheap but inept bluray players. That and most are pretty okay with SD.

My grandma has money and is considering going Blu.

Three that I am aware of.
One by showing a Blu-ray playing off my laptop connected to *HIS* HDTV and me grinning at him for his jaw being on the floor.

Without Blu-ray, your HDTV is just a TV
^^^ That ^^^ got him pissed enough to go get a PS3.

Two by showing them screen shots of Computer Captures and them seeing what they look like when piped to their displays.
They wanted that insane quality when they watched movies!
All of them were also blown away once they heard the audio too.

I still get people claiming "nearly as good" from UC DVDs and some POS download they got.
I suggest they sit the proper distance from the screen and play an actual BD.
They shut up REAL quick when they realize a 37" screen at 8 feet is too far away!

Proper viewing distance does matter!

3. Sister, Mom and a cousin.

For me it was easy...no sales needed. I intentionally left Planet Earth playing when my Mom came by. She stopped and looked and her face just light up and she asked "how did you make that so clear?" I explained Blu and it was over. She asked..."Do you mind if I sit and watch for a while?"....2 hours later we had dinner. My Mom is 72 and was immediately floored by the picture, so these people who cant (wont) see it are full of baloney, or, have poor poor vision.

My Sister came by and I showed her Cars. A couple days later she called and said that she was going to convert one of her spare bedrooms into a dedicated theater and asked if I would help her paint, carpet, wire and select all new components. I asked what/when this decision was based on. She said "5 seconds into watching cars, I knew I could never go back."

I've convinced a couple friends to upgrade to Blu-ray. Both bought Playstation 3 systems several months ago, one bought a 52" Samsung Series 7 TV to go with the PS3 purchase. A few other friends who have been to my house and seen my home theater setup are seriously considering. My next door neighbor bought a 46" Samsung HDTV after getting a look at my 52" Sony Bravia XBR4. She hasn't bought a Blu-ray player yet, but hopes to do so on or after Black Friday.

A lot of people don't understand the difference between DVD and Blu-ray. But when you literally show them the difference it's sort of like a light bulb turning on. The comprehension shows. You'll hear a response like, "ohh, I see what you're talking about now!"

I have a Sony HDMI-equipped DVD player that I use for side by side comparisons. I own a few movies both on Blu-ray and on DVD. Casino Royale, Cars and Bladerunner are a few examples. I'll have the BD and DVD versions playing in sync on each player and switch the TV input between the DVD player and PS3. It's very easy for them to see that upconverted DVD is simply no match for native 1080p/24 on Blu-ray.

It's not so easy to convert someone to Blu considering how expensive it is to get the full conversion (HDTV, Player, Sound system, movies ...) It is really something they should want and really want.

None so far, but a friend of mine has been considering getting a PS3 for a while. I think he's gonna wait for a price drop though.

This is the same why i do it, I just put on the Matrix on and switch back and forth, and just blow them away I had my 6 year old nephew asking his dad why they can't see movies that clear at home.

3 so far. One of my other friends has been very impressed with the BDs we've watched. So it'll be 4 officially sometime next year.
