It may be even earlier than that. Here's a link to supposedly leaked specifications on TVs set to be announced at CES in January, including 4K sets which it seems likely will be available for sale in 2016...

Also note that the non Quantum Dot sets listed for LG appear to be the OLEDs, and include 8K sets at 77" and 82".

That website has fake information. Same site popped up last year too. If your a member, you can edit anything in there including specs and model numbers. It's all fake.

Even if 8K panels came onto the market tomorrow, it still wouldn't make a lick of difference to UltraHD blu-ray.

There is not a single movie or tv show yet produced or in production that is even shot in 8K, let alone mastered in it.

An 8K panel MAY provide a better viewing experience of 4K content, and will be able to do things like true 4K passive 3D eventually, or simultaneous display of multiple 4K sources, but until content starts being produced in 8K it'll just be a value-add feature on high end panels.

I look forward to moving on to 8K as a widespread standard for both production and replay, but that's at least 10 years away, maybe 20.

I will probably go through 3 or 4 televisions between now and then, as will most consumers.

Its a 1-4 upscale. Any equipment should be able to perform the transition with great effect.

Although, I have never seen a 1080p upscale to 4k in shops. Obviously will try once I get the 4k TV.

I have a Samsung 75hu8550. Blu Ray looks fantastic upscaled. It looks better imo than 4K Netflix.

4K Netflix has its moments but it's not a wow factor. I downloaded some 4K demos onto a Harddrive and was blown away how clear that looked compared to Netflix. Same goes for Amazon 4K
Thanks. From which site you download the demos and what are the requirements of HDD? I mean is it NTFS or FAT32 or both will work?

If a file is over 4GB then FAT32 will be generally unsuitable, kashif. You'd need to have your USB stick or portable HDD set to NTFS. If the files are under 4GB then FAT32 is fine. The only issue then is that NTFS drives aren't always recognized by some BD players or the PS3 so you'd have to format them to exFAT. So it's worth checking that the drives are compatible first (I'm sure you've used them in the past) if you haven't.

I know nobody answered, but let your TV do it. The 930c has Sony's new X1 chip which is by far the best video processing chip on the market.

A general question: Does upscaling mean a change in resolution? I have a Xbox One S + 4K Vizio TV + 1080p Gravity Blu-Ray, but resolution still shows as 1080p.

yes of course, 1080p turns into 3840 pixels × 2160.

everything i watch on my UB900 4k player says 3840 pixels × 2160. im not sure if the xbox one upscales everything else

The Panasonic UB900 is extremely gratifying with its upscaling capabilities. Some blu-rays will actually look better than a few of the 4K Ultra HD blurays released.Transformers series on blu ray look spectacular upscaled thru the Panny along the Resident Evil movies.I recently checked out Pan's Labyrinth and it's an eye opener.Looks incredible.10 Cloverfield Lane just blew me away.It was awesome.I owned the Samsung before switching to the Panny and the reviews will verify the UB900's ultimate scaling ability.

Potentially silly question - but is your XB1 actually set to output 4K in it's display settings?

All sources other than native 4K are upscaled to 4K for a 4K TV. For the majority of non-4K content, the TV will provide the optimal upscaling, but for some, say non-interlaced, a player or AVR may provide a superior picture. What you want to avoid is duplication of processing of content, i.e., Blu-ray player up scaling 1080p to 4K, AVR up scaling to 4K, TV up scaling to 4K.

In the example you shared, the XB1S does NOT upscale Blu-ray, so the source is 1080p, which is noted, however the content is upscaled by the Vizio to 4K because it is a 4K TV.

I've been watching 1080P on a Samsung plasma for the past 8 years. I got my OLED yesterday.

The upscaled content from my Tivo Bolt is fine. Is it as good as it was on my 1080P Plasma? No it isn't but it is very close. If that's the trade off for enjoying 4K HDR content, so be it, I'm fine with that.

I have been watching a 4k TV now for a year and a half. In my opinion 1080 content looks way better upscaled the 4k. Anything in 1080 looks almost as good as native 4k. I have been blown away. I adapted early and never regretted the decision.

4K discs seem a lot darker then their standard blu ray counterpart. Anyone feel the same way or have an opinion on the matter?

Blu-rays look freaking amazing on my new TV, but how much of that is 4k and how much is just it being a better TV I don't know. My last 1080 TV had way too warm a color temp and much lower contrast ratio, and I think those two upgrades were MASSIVE. Stuff does look a little more crisp and detailed too though, depending on the source.
