Default Romancing the Stone & Jewel o/t Nile Reviews: Won't be buying!

I was sadly disappointed to read the reviews this morning of these two great films, as I have been looking forward to them receiving a solid BD treatment for some time. It is obvious that 20th Century missed the opportunity to give those fans a product they could be proud of.

I also think it's obvious that 20th Century pushed these out to ride on the coat-tails of the INDY success. They cut corners and produced a product that, in the end, is going to require a remaster/remix or whatever.

Really sad, because the movies and the fans deserved better!

For those of us that can't read your mind, what titles are you referring to?

I've divined Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile.
But using acronyms for every movie title is a PITA.

No different than people using LBP....took me a week to figure out what they were talking about.

No space to write it all out....so I used acronyms.

FWIW overusing acronyms is not SOTA... IMHO.

John, I read the reviews and the AQ is what seems to be really lacking on both films...the PQ seems to be pretty good for an older pic.

if you are a die hard fan of the movies I would suggest at least renting them on BD and then seeing what you think about them.

they will definitely look better than any previous formats and maybe you will be so happy to see a fond old memory look better than ever that you will look past the poor sound and want to buy them...maybe

It's the review of the AQ that really turned me off. I probably will give them a rent because I really like those movies, but my point was mentioned from a potential buying perspective. BD's are expensive (regardless of the deals we sometime uncover), so I was really disappointed.

I guess I expected more.

True enough.....and they're only movies! Not like I live for BD's! Speaking of which, I finally got my copy of Led Zeppelin's MOTHERSHIP on vinyl the other day. Think I'm gonna chill with a cold beer and enjoy some great tunes.

If the sound wasn't the greatest on the original print in the first place how do you expect it to get better. The video on Romancing The Stone is pretty decent . The sequal is another story. Its better than the dvd and if your a die hard fan you will buy it but looking for demo quality movies, most will pass.

Be greatful that INDY caused them to be released at all. Otherwise we might not have seen them on Blu for years...

I can confirm that the audio issues present on the blu-ray of RTS are not there due to a source issue. The Pro-Logic surround track on my laserdisc copy sounds miles better than the blu-ray audio. I'm not sure what happened, but the sound was definitely botched in some way, and a better-sounding version could be released and has been before.
