Did you hear the story of the unrated cut? If not, short version: the extra footage in the unrated was put in as something to cut after submitting to MPAA. They expected to get hit hard and thought cutting all that would give everything else a pass. MPAA gave the unrated an R anyway! So they didn't really want that scene, but used it as a marketing gimmick for the dvd while leaving it out of the theater version/shorter R cut. I half agree just cuz even though the filmmakers didn't want it, I find ****ing funny! ![]() |

Team America is another Paramount title Warner put out and their deal is over. As said above, they are all technically OOP, though probably a lot of copies were printed and the only reason they're selling out is people rushing to get them for resale.

A small point, but Shaft is actually straight Warner and not Paramount. Picking it up was a good idea anyway.

Is there a master list anywhere of the 600 titles (or more?) in the Warner-Paramount deal? I want to make sure I get anything I may have missed before they dry up.
Thx for the heads up on Snake Eyes. I prefer standalone releases so just snatched one of those up. |

It would be nice to have a list, yes. Pretty much any Paramount release from the last three years might be considered an urgent buy right now though. However I wouldn't go TOO crazy, since Paramount might eventually release them on their own like they did The Warriors. Also they might get a new disc release partner soon who puts them all back out.

Most of the Paramount-Warner releases were missing their DVD extras. I doubt it will happen, but it would be nice if they were all re-released with their previous DVD extras.

Thanks for the list. A lot of those that jumped out at me as must-haves were only on DVD, like Black Sunday. No real reason to jump on those since one assumes they will come to BD eventually through someone. Or the DVDs will remain cheap.
I grabbed a few things on that list though like Congo, Paycheck and Galaxy Quest. |

There are a couple I'm a bit annoyed with myself for sleeping on. The others I would be interested in have equivalent releases here in the U.K. or Europe and I believe the ones from Paramount themselves are also Region Free for anyone who doesn't have to specifically have the US versions. Unfortunately the U.K. release of Marathon Man is now OOP as well and didn't have the mono track or extras from the US release so would have liked that. Similar case with Chinatown but I grabbed that one. The UK disc of The Machinist is also OOP and had some strange glitch in the frame. There are European releases but I'm not sure how they stack up.

I guess that explains why the U.K releases of Coming To America and 48 Hours are ridiculously pricey.

Stinging was referring to the Paramount film with that title, the 1977 classic by John Frankenheimer about terrorists trying to blow up a blimp over the Super Bowl. Not the Bava film.

I think it will be a mix. Paramount (or their new partner) will probably print more of the popular movies that sell better, and maybe they will start licensing, but some smaller movies might fall through the cracks. If you want to own shite like Congo for some weird reason, like me, I might jump while it's there. Or not. Use your gut!
