I really dislike war movies. In general. So, Hacksaw Ridge is not my thing. I'm sure that Garfield is really good in it. And I'm a big Sam Worthington fan, too. But I just dislike war movies a lot.

War shows up at 1.1% of my collection, for instance. And seriously, most of those like Hiroshima mon amour or The Edge of Love or The Imitation Game or Atonement or Incendies aren't really "war" movies.

Maybe I'll see it on HBO one day.

The only one of those, unfortunately, that I'm interested in seeing even remotely is Hell or High Water. And I'm not even that interested in that one, tbh. But I thought Sheridan did an excellent job writing Sicario so I'll cut him some slack.

I would be interested in Lion, if for no other reason than Rooney Mara (not to mention Nicole Kidman), but the trailer just looks awful.

Moonlight and Hacksaw Ridge was are amazing. Don't care to see Fences.

Thor: The Dark World - Rewatch. I don't who I like more, Thor, or Loki? They're both good in my book.

To me this movie highlights just how irrelevant these characters have become in the decades since their 1934 debut, and is a complete misfire in its efforts at bringing the Stooges into the 21st century.

But like I said, I don't like war films, and Moonlight doesn't seem to appeal to me at all. Maybe one day, once I see it, I'll feel differently.

BEWARE THE SLENDERMAN

A

One of the most depressing films I've ever seen.

I have a lot more to say about this film, but I need to put it all together first.

The Woman in Black

First time. I knew what was coming. A handsome film for sure and Daniel really put his best effort and energy into his role. Ciaran Hinds is an inviting and warm presence. Of course there are the mainstays of genre outings such as this. Long slow walks down dark corridors with ominous creaking, banging, or other such noises while characters fumble around for a light source (of which there are precious few). I daresay that most of us normal persons would be out of the house, and quite probably out of the country, at the first sign of any out of place activity, but this is a horror film (a ghost story at that) so stick it out to the end we must. The Woman in Black is a nice little ghost story held aloft by two great performances from Radcliffe and Hinds, arresting locations and cinematography, and some very genuinely creepy gothic atmosphere. The film does have atmosphere to spare.

3.5/5

Watched earlier:

This was a TV movie that aired on Lifetime. The original version from 1988 was pretty good. This one, not so much.

Just watched:

Mr. Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story
3/5

This was a pretty decent biopic about hockey legend Gordie Howe.
