Also, it's worth noting that they said Babadook was the biggest seller by a pretty large margin!

To be honest, there is nothing about that list that surprises me. Maybe if Scream Factory worked to get a cardboard standee of their titles into a Best Buy every Halloween (preferably more often) they'd have better results with some of the other not listed titles.
I think you're underestimating the popularity of that title. It fared well at the box office, and has been a favorite of genre fans in terms of the various home media releases of the last 30 odd years or so. It's not hard to see why it was a strong seller for Scream anymore than the John Carpenter films were.

Return of the Living Dead has one of the biggest cult followings of any horror film from that era. Totally doesn't surprise me that it's one of their biggest sellers. It was an amazing release too.

Mad Max is currently $9.99 at Best Buy so if the features interest you or for collection purposes that is a cheap route.

I certainly am well aware of the following the film has, but given it's much shorter time on the market, the lack of a brick and mortar store presence, and a significantly cheaper edition already available, I am a bit surprised to see it on the list. Not shocked by any means, but somewhat surprised.

I actually saw copies of Return of the Living Dead at a Best Buy store.

So did I. Their stock depends on local sales and demographics. Not every store carries the same stuff.

I Just counted all my screams, and I am at 100 exactly. Counting Men At Work. Also ordered Poltergeist 2 and 3.

Off topic here from Scream for a sec.
Been thinking about getting the Platinum Cult Edition of xtro. Love the movie. Can anybody recommend getting this? Or should I wait till someone North america does a release. Appreciate advice.

I got their Split Second release with the DVD, it was ok, nice features. Came with Slip. Had it for a while now.

Impressive that The Thing is on the list considering it's relatively new.

It was readily available at Best Buy for months, and the regional retailer, Bullmoose still carries it on its shelves today. I suppose it's all dependent on where one lives, but it was readily available in my neck of the woods. Again, no surprise to see that this title was one of Scream's best sellers.

Even my mother bought The Babadook. Good word-of-mouth and wide availability explain that one.

this thread is magical, and will answer all of your questions in hilarious fashion.

the proprietor of this line is an obstinate jerk who really loves DNR. I picked up his release of The Guyver before i knew the score. it's not a terrible release and it cost me $8, but i would never buy anything else from that line.

My John Carpenter Birthday Sale Blu-rays, Body Bags and Elvis, arrived in the mail today from Shout Factory.

Body Bags did not have a slipcover, but I'm okay with that. It will join Night of the Demons on my shelf as my two non-slip Collector's Editions Blu-rays that force me to get over my OCD self.

Well Damn... I was not aware that ROTLD was ever in stores, so knowing that I guess it's not surprising at all it sold well. Though it does once again confirm that having titles in stores = significantly better sales which once again brings up the question why isn't shout doing more to get a standee or other display into Best Buy once or twice a year?

I think Shout / Scream Factory is making some inroads with Best Buy. The local store in my area, in addition to ROTLD, has carried a number of the John Carpenter blu ray releases at different times, as well as one or two of the Shout Select titles, Midnight Run. Interestingly enough the SF title that appears / disappears most often on the shelves is John Carpenter's Escape from New York.

Bull Moose carries every Shout/Scream Factory, Arrow, Criterion, Olive, Kino Lorber and Synapse title in all of their stores. I love that place.

Yeah, my local Best Buy seems to get Escape from NY and Mad Max in randomly. I've seen RotLD, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Buckaroo Bonzai, Bill & Ted, Midnight Run and Carrie with in the last 6 months there. Kind of nice to pick them up in store.

My Best Buy has only ever carried the IFC films, Manhunter, Escape from New York, Mad Max, The Fog and maybe one or two other films when Scream Factory was still starting out. It never got in Carrie, Army of Darkness, Return of the Living Dead, or any of the other collectors editions from the last 2 years.
