Saw it at the cinema too and I recently found a copy of the book. I would love a Criterion edition of this one.

Mine, too, slipped in a cardboard mailer. Mildred Pierce and Roma, with Dekalog sandwiched in between. The discs were also packed between cardboard bookends inside the mailer. Dekalog is in perfect mint condition. Not even a hint of a corner dinged.

Taking this potential fact out of the picture, I'd say there is a good chance that Criterion will start releasing and re-releasing certain films in 4K with the increase in 4K technology and innovations and a continued demand for the release of films in this newer format. |

All of the titles that were never reviewed (including those films already released and those films scheduled to be released in the future) will eventually be reviewed. It's just a matter of when. ![]() |

I watched One Eyed Jacks yesterday afternoon. I thought it was a fun watch. I consider it a successful blind buy, but it wasn’t quite what I expected. Brando, who I’d probably name if pressed to choose the ‘greatest actor’ of all-time, was a little flat. Perhaps he was busy with directorial duties that he failed to really give a characterization to Rio.
[Show spoiler] and I see it in the script and hear it in the dialogue. I just didn’t quite feel it in the performance.Quite a bit of melodrama, too, which I didn’t really expect. On the other hand, the film looks gorgeous. The cinematography is excellent and the plot is a good deal of fun. I know these films don’t necessarily warrant comparison, but for whatever reason I thought of The Man From Laramie. I’d give OEJ the edge there. …and I thought of The Big Country only in that I feel the need to rank films I’ve seen. I’d say TBC was a better Western. Always fun though, with Brando, no matter what, so I’ll surely revisit it and read about the production history which is supposed to be quite interesting. |
