Right, that's why I amended the thought with the parenthetical; as a fan of Guinness who saw and read the Le Carre stuff waaaay back, this reminded me of Le Carre, but on the grounds that it pre-dates most of Le Carre's work, I realized that it is the other way around, Le Carre is reminiscent of this.

Agreed, that's why I compared Guinness's performances to two of his comedic works and specifically not his Le Carre work.

Our Man in Havana is a blind buy for me, but I pre-ordered it on day one, because...

1. It's a Carol Reed film based on a Graham Greene novel.
2. It's supposedly lighter in tone than The Third Man, but I've heard that it still has some dark undercurrents.
3. I'm interested to see a movie set in pre-Castro Cuba.
4. This movie stars Maureen O'Hara. I'd pay to see a two-hour dog food commercial, as long as it stars Maureen O'Hara.

Although le Carre put his own spin on the same setup with The Tailor of Panama, the film version taking the humour even further.

Basically we'll be in the same niche that Laser Disc was at the time VHS was still dominant and will probably rate the same brief passing mention in the longer articles on format evolution despite making wider inroads into the market internationally. Which at least is better than CDi or 8mm video.

You're probably right. Ironic though b/c BD as true HD seems to be what DVD was leading up to, or what many people thought they were getting with DVD.

On the other hand, the improvement in home video presentation from VHS to DVD was more substantial than DVD to BD.

This exchange was posted on the Twilight Time facebook page:

Potential Customer: "MOBY DICK on sale already? Geez, I figured it'd be sold out already."
Twilight Time: "It will be by the end of the sale."

Maybe, maybe not. I think that once a lot of people saw that the restoration and subsequent transfer didn't come out quite as great as they were hoping, they decided to hold off.

I interpret that post to mean that they are looking at the actual sale numbers from the first week of the sale, not just guessing, but it's up to y'all what you do with the info. My copy is already on order.

That question was posted right when the sale was announced though, not after looking at the numbers after the first week of the sale. I remember reading that exchange at least a week ago.

Moby Dick selling out by the end of the sale would be surprising to me. I take the statement more as a marketing strategy to actually boost sales. People are more inclined to buy if they feel like something is on the verge of selling out.

Got Boxcar Bertha in today. I haven't been a big fan of Twilight Time's cover art for a while now but they are totally nailing the interior designs since they went to clear cases. Almost every case I open has a lovely synergy of booklet, disc and inner case art that blends really well, and Bertha is no exception.

Shame a Scorcese movie didn't merit a new commentary though.

Fair enough, I thought it was dated within the last day or two, but I believe you and don't care enough to check.

I find they do that often... post that titles are "selling like hotcakes" which is ambiguous enough to give the impression that you need to buy now or lose out.

I know this is now quite old although did anybody manage to track down someone at twilight and ask why their disc is totally devoid of contrast. I own the dvd version and it looks super compared to this monstrosity.

It's a color space issue. If you have a player where you can set RGB to full, it will look better.

The German release has rhe correct color space, but has no English subs.

Thank you. When you say it will look better are you saying it will look normal or somewhat better?

From what I've read, it should make it look normal, but some player's RGB settings seem to give them varying resuts. I know it's called "RGB Full" on the PS3 and it should make it look pretty much the same as the German release linked above.
