Default Can you put your Sub near your Plasma?

I know older CRT TV's you had to keep your sub a distance away from your TV.

My question is can you put the sub close to your plasma or LCD? I ask as I bought this stand for my new 58" 800u Panasonic Plasma, and it shows a sub directley underneath the set. Can, or should you do this?

i'm pretty sure lcds and plasmas aren't effected by magnets. also, a lot of subs have shielding anyways.

side note: i don't think i'd put a sub on that anyways because of possible rattling etc.

I'm sure you can..... but more importantly, putting the sub in the position shown on the picture, is going to cause rattling etc..... You should really put your sub on a piece of carpet, but that's just my opinion....

so as long as it does not cause rattling it is alright? I think I could stop rattling but was worried about the magnets..

Your PSW Series subwoofer is not magnetically shielded. Do not place near video monitors.
(LCD, DLP and Plasma televisions are not affected by magnetism.) Allow at least
18" (45cm) of space between your subwoofer and any television, but if you do notice
video distortion or discoloration, immediately move the subwoofer away from the TV.

that's from my polk sub's manual: http://www.polkaudio.com/downloads/m..._12_Manual.pdf

Unshielded speakers affect CRT monitors. They don't affect LCD, Plasma, & DLP. I am more concerned with your subwoofer below the TV. You don't want to find your TV on the floor. Put the subwoofer on the floor even if it doesn't look as nice.

Electromagnetic radiation consists of electric and magnetic fields. Electromagnetic shielding used to block radio frequency radiation is also known as RF shielding.

Most conductive materials such as aluminum, copper, and steel provide substantial RF shielding. At frequencies from 30 to 100 MHz, aluminum foil provides a very effective shield. A more effective method is to hold two sheets of aluminum foil parallel, with a few inches between them. That gives you roughly close to 100% RF shielding. Unfortunately, aluminum foil is extremely inadequate against low frequency magnetic fields.

Shielding magnetic fields is more difficult than shielding electric fields. Sheets of galvanized steel work fairly well and are available in almost all hardware stores. Ideally, two thin layers work better than one thicker layer.

Safety reasons aside. I'm pretty sure the sub shouldnt go that close to the TV anyway for good audio reasons. I believe your sub should be at least 3 feet horizontally from your set for good acoustics.

every room is different. there's no rule where you should have your sub 3 feet from your tv for acoustics.

thx says you should put your sub precisely where you say you shouldn't. http://thx.com/home/setup/speakers/sub.html

wow thanks for all the info... It has answered my question though that plasmas are not affected by the SUBs so it is possible without damage to the tv, which is what I wanted to know..

now I got to see if I even want to do it.. it is interesting THX says if you have one to put it right there though.. my 58, 800u panasonic does have a THX mode as well.. wonder if my PS3 has skip protection?...lol

I don't believe the PS3 is effected by disc skip.

Just an update.. I recieved the stand and put it together.. I did not realize the entire top and bottom are pure glass.. solid and thick glass.. not sure if that changes anything, but I do not have my Plasma yet so I am still sitting my old CRT on top of the stand, and have moved my sub far left for now.. still sounds good.

One problem I noticed although the middle is high enough for my sub, it is not deep enough.. I could take off the back wire cable organizer, (as it is not supoorting the structure at all, more for looks), but still playing around with idea of where to put the sub.. right now I got it in corner of room, about 10 feet away from the center of this stand and it is working well.

I was very happy with the quality of this stand although and it was pretty simple to put together.. got all my other components in there nicley..

Hi,

So, Affect or not the Subwoofer close to Plasma? and another question, I have my Receiver just a few cms(5) from the TV? this one can affect to plasma also?

I ask this, because let me say my history. I bought a Plasma 32'' and I connected it to my receiver, it was working all its stuff perfectly . Well, someday I watched a DVD movie and normally I like to hear the movies too loud so I put volume too high with subwoofer. All that day the TV was fine. But to next day, the Plasma appeared with a big internal scratch at its Screen, so I tested it, the image not appeared just heard the sound of the TV, I was too worry, what could be happend?. Fortunately I could change this TV for a new one by the warranty at the store. For this reason, I am look for information about this, but I'm not sure if this happened for the subwoofer, by the Receiver or by another reason. So Could Somebody tell me? Any suggestion or comment about this. Thanks.

Regards,

NEO

In a THX cinema the sub is usually behind the screen which does not affect audio properties, not an LCD/Plasma/RP.
