Default Will we have to put up with BD+ and BD- nonsense?

The whole DVD+R and DVD-R issue was very frustrating when dealing with earlier dvd players, is Sony going to put us through that with Blu Ray discs?

Dual format players may be okay but I don't know anyone that's going to use HD-DVD-R discs when given the option to use BD-ROMs instead if they own a dual-format burner.

Default One Head is Better Than Three ...

...Of course, Sony (and Phillips) have developed triple laser optical heads, optimised for BD, DVD & CD (Sony have even integrated the three lasers onto the same substrate, whereas Phillips' approach is to slot in standard laser diodes as required for each application).

The point being that Blu-ray needs to support protection layers of 0.1, 0.6 and 1.2mm for full DVD/CD compatibility anyway, whereas HD-DVD uses the same 0.6mm protection layer as DVD and so only needs to work with 0.6 and 1.2mm. So Sony can make an HD-DVD-compatible machine relatively easily (and have already done so) whereas the HD-DVD camp are stuck with 0.6 and 1.2mm and no stepping stone to jump to except Blu-ray... :?
