As I had stated in a previous post, my BD-P1200 ate my update disc before last Thanksgiving, and refused to spit it out. I sent the player to Samsung's main repair center just after Turkey Day, and they spent the next two months deciding when they were going to repair it. Samsung persuaded me to be patient, since my returned unit would contain the very latest firmware updates.
I actually got it back today, January 28. 2008. It didn't work. At all. It didn't play 'Mr. Brooks', nor any of the Disney 'Pirates' movies, nor the 'Pixar' shorts', nor ANY OTHER STINKING, BLEEPING @#%* blu-ray movie. Nor any stinking, bleeping @#%* standard-def DVD movie. It is most unfortunate for me that the Oscar nominations have already been handed out, because I would have been nominated for Best Actor in the Most Patient Customer with Samsung's Goofball Inept Customer Service category. Of course, I called Samsung back, and very politely asked them to give me either a refund or a new player. The lady I spoke with told me she would try to authorize the return of the unit for a new(?) 1400, but couldn't guarantee anything. Samsung will call me next Tuesday. If I get the 1400, will that be any better? Will Samsung listen to me when I ask them to put the latest firmware update in the player before they send it to me in the summer of 2010? Will cows someday learn how to fly? Please coddle me. I need nurturing. |

that's rough.....can't you return the unit to where you bought it? try and get them to exchange it. you might be outside the x-mas return window, but if you've got the original box and everything, i'd box that shit right up and go to best buy and get store credit and then get yourself a ps3.
just a suggestion. |

When I sold electronics I never did like the Samsung players. I actually don't even like Samsung as a whole that much.
For the life of me I can't understand how they could keep your player so long only to return it in a nonworking condition. Given the time they should have diagnosed the problem, repaired it and checked it... then rechecked it... then rechecked it again... and then, after they knew that if definitely worked and had the latest firmware, sent it out to you... wow. |

Thats really messed up ... sorry to hear that you had to go through all that crap!
Anyways, I recently bought the 1400 about 3 weeks ago ... I have watched all kinds of BD and Standard DVD's and I havent had a single problem with any. not to mention that I have watched movies that some people on here have said they have had problems with (Pirates 3, Ratatouli, Fantasic 4-Silver Surfer ...). I honestly think its a great player! Maybe its just because i bought a recent one, and maybe the first ones off the production line had issues ... but I can honestly say that i havent. Good luck bro! |

Sorry to hear that. I also had the Samsuck BD-P1200. It was a complete POS. I will never buy another Samsuck product.
Those of you who read this, DO NOT BUY a Samsuck BD player!!! They are the worst on the market. |

Not like this is what you want to hear, but I'd just get a PS3 and call it a day.

AD, this is indeed unfortunate. It won't play any BD's or SD DVD's? Knowing your format history and how you approached the membership here last year, I would have liked to have seen you experience nothing but good from Blu-ray. Other than sincere sympathy, there's little I can add. Clearly, you have a 1200 defective well beyond the already aggravating firmware issues and I think your best course is to aggressively pursue Samsung for replacement. It's hard for me to imagine they could say no. Good luck!

You are probably better off getting another player... probably the PS3.
If you have no way of getting your actual money back on your 1200 player, but if Samsung is willing to exchange it for the 1400, go ahead and do it. Worst case scenario, you have a working player that you could sell on ebay or something, and then buy a PS3. While the 1400 hasn't had the level of problems so far as the 1200, there have been a few glitches, and the PS3 is just a more reliable machine. I think you're better off with that (I recently got one and am very happy with it). After the problems with my 1200, as well as a Samsung upconverting DVD player/recorder that I got about a year ago and crapped out after about 6 to 8 months, I am pretty much done with Samsung (at least for any kind of movie playing device). PS3 all the way! |

Soon enough Samsing will have to get its act together. HD dVD is obsolete and they waill have to concentrate their effort in making Blu-ray owners happy. If not, the Sony, Panasonic, Sharp, and even Toshiba will fill in the gaps!

I had one of their early DLP sets, and it was nothing but problems. The big problems started just over two and a half years of ownership. I spent $700 fixing it then. Then, 6 months later, I got the worst problem that you could get on those sets (the light tunnel was collapsing)... and the fix was to replace the entire light engine. Cost was going to be $1700 plus labor! And it needed a new bulb anyway. So, that set found its way to a store that could use it for some cheap parts, and I got a new Sony SXRD set. Both problems I had with the set were VERY common with those models (certainly implying that they had some major manufacturing issues), but Samsung didn't care. It was out of warranty. I've never had a set die after only 3 years (after one costly fix at that). That's just ridiculous. And even with my excellent discount, that set still set me back over $3,000. I love HDTV... but $1,000 per year seems a bit steep. Anyway, I just had to get that off my chest. As for the 1400... it's still a Samsung, so cross your fingers. Truthfully, though, it seems to have MUCH fewer problems than the 1200. |

That made me wonder if it could have been the Reon chip causing the problems? That would be too bad because the Reon chip does fantastic upscaling of SD DVDs. |

The fact that samsung sent you the unit back in the same condition is, well, inexcusible. the least they could have done was send you a new one...Makes me glad I buy sony. I have never had any issues with any of their products. If they do replace it with the 1400, it seems to be a good unit. It will also have DTS MASTER AUDIO/ DOLBY TRUE HD.(nice!) But... I wouldn't expect it to have the latest firmware though, since they will send it to you new unsealed. You'll have to get it from the samsuck website......Def
