Well ill definitely never trust a samsung bluray player.

Atleast they had enough sense to discontinue their dual format players.

Or just buy another, switch the players, box it up and return that one to the store. Dishonest? Maybe but you put your time in, it's time to start thinking about yourself now.

When I sold electronics I never did like the Samsung players. I actually don't even like Samsung as a whole that much.

For the life of me I can't understand how they could keep your player so long only to return it in a nonworking condition. Given the time they should have diagnosed the problem, repaired it and checked it... then rechecked it... then rechecked it again... and then, after they knew that if definitely worked and had the latest firmware, sent it out to you...

wow.

Thats really messed up ... sorry to hear that you had to go through all that crap!
Anyways, I recently bought the 1400 about 3 weeks ago ... I have watched all kinds of BD and Standard DVD's and I havent had a single problem with any. not to mention that I have watched movies that some people on here have said they have had problems with (Pirates 3, Ratatouli, Fantasic 4-Silver Surfer ...). I honestly think its a great player! Maybe its just because i bought a recent one, and maybe the first ones off the production line had issues ... but I can honestly say that i havent.

Good luck bro!

Sorry to hear that. I also had the Samsuck BD-P1200. It was a complete POS. I will never buy another Samsuck product.

Those of you who read this, DO NOT BUY a Samsuck BD player!!! They are the worst on the market.

Not like this is what you want to hear, but I'd just get a PS3 and call it a day.

You are probably better off getting another player... probably the PS3.

If you have no way of getting your actual money back on your 1200 player, but if Samsung is willing to exchange it for the 1400, go ahead and do it. Worst case scenario, you have a working player that you could sell on ebay or something, and then buy a PS3. While the 1400 hasn't had the level of problems so far as the 1200, there have been a few glitches, and the PS3 is just a more reliable machine. I think you're better off with that (I recently got one and am very happy with it).

After the problems with my 1200, as well as a Samsung upconverting DVD player/recorder that I got about a year ago and crapped out after about 6 to 8 months, I am pretty much done with Samsung (at least for any kind of movie playing device).

PS3 all the way!

Yes, Samsung is having troubles with their Blu-Ray players, but I believe you're wrong about the Dual Format players, they're ceasing production of the BD-UP5000 because of problems with the Blu-Ray playback and they're still coming out with then new BD-UP5500 this summer ($599 MSRP?), it will be less money and without the Reon chip.

That made me wonder if it could have been the Reon chip causing the problems?

That would be too bad because the Reon chip does fantastic upscaling of SD DVDs.
