Thats been in the works for a while man... Its all toys you get with that set, with the remote, thin panel, new look and With it obviously being an LED its gonna be yet another overpriced LCD ( a very fancy one i will admit ) But overpriced, with a PQ im guessing not near the Series 6 plasmas by samsung

its a sweet looking TV, i love the stainless steel look, and the remote is crazy-a rep at their booth was saying that while you are watching one channel on the tv you can go to a different channel on the remote control's screen itself and check on a game for example!! so insane! no more backlit LEDs from samsung though...they said they found a way to achieve the se contrast with edge-lit designs..im concerned about shadow detail myself,i know the black levels are going to be awesome.

I personally hate the brushed steel move color wise. Now that I have a black receiver, black TV stand, black speakers, black bookcases, etc. to go with all the black TVs over the last couple of years, I'm not about to buy a brushed steel colored LCD. What were they thinking?
And this thing is probably going to top out at 65". There last LCDs topped out at 55", so at least they are getting a little bigger. But I hate to see them beat out by Vizio's 72". It is going to be real hard to justify all the money they are going to want for this TV when you can get a bigger set, with more features, that's not brushed steel, for less money. |

even if the Vizio was 92" - i highly doubt its PQ will come close to samsung's. i took a couple movie clips of the sammy at their booth today and that thing is unbelievable.
I played Gears Of War in 3D on their new 8 series LED and it was a blast ... the glasses do get annying but i think after a couple weeks people will get used to them. on that note- they had a 31" OLED 3D prototype- INSANE!! i cant wait to see those in production... |

Now that is thin. Gotta be an edge-lit model. I can't imagine it being a full-array setup. Nonetheless, we are beginning to see some of the thinnest possible TVs arriving. I like the remote control with built in TV display! Nifty idea!

I think I'm going to wait till this 72" Vizio comes out before making a judgement call on which has the better picture. The Samsungs out right now, and even the new batch are not 480hz. That also don't have local dimming, much less all the zones this new Vizio is supposed to have (all the Samsungs are rumored to be edge lit). And that brushed steel on the 9000 and I think 8000 really ruin it for me. Is Vizio supposed to have a better picture than Samsung, not in a million years. But the new Vizio has a lot going for it. If integrated WiFi and the other built in goodies weren't enough, it is going to be less than $3500 and 72". Samsungs largest TV this year will be a 65" and it will cost almost double what that Vizio will run. I would reserve judgement on the Vizio before the reviews start coming in on them.

You know what else is smoke and mirrors, 7,000,000:1 and 5,000,000:1 mega contrast ratios on Samsung's 8500 and 8000 series LED LCDs. But that is still hands down the best picture on any LCD on the market right now, so I think something can be said about them, smoke and mirrors or not. Hopefully the 72" Vizio will have the same luck with their smoke and mirrors.
Oddly enough, when I went to look up those ratios, it seems that Samsung has taken down their 8000 series. Wonder what's up with that. You can still find them cached on Google. Either way, if the Vizio comes out and looks like crap, then I'll just get another Samsung. I have a 60", but if I have to down grade to last year's 55" or if I can afford one of this year's 65", that's what I'll do. I am just hoping Vizio's 72" picture quality will be as good or better then Samsung's 8000s because that would really make my year. |

this might be a wild guess but I think with that back-lit design the Vizio is going to have some major blooming issues...so far it's been impossible for high-end manufacturers to eliminate it so I really don't expect the Vizio to go around that problem. But hey-maybe they've stepped up their game! lower prices for good products is good for all of us after all
![]() The samsung people at CES were saying that the company spent millions in research and their new edge lit models performed just as well if not better than their back-lit ones. they are now able to achieve higher contrasts and better shadow detail from an edge lit LED LCD. and from what I saw - I actually think somehow they managed to do it. after all I have a back lit LED myself and I really cant say that its better than the new ones I saw last week in vegas. |

Seems the Samsung Series 8 LED LCD TVs (and some other 240hz models) were pulled off their website over patent lawsuits or something. How odd. This is leading many to believe that Samsung won't support the recently pulled TVs with any firmware updates or anything like that. I guess they were rumored to be getting NetFlix streaming and some other upgrades later this year. Total bummer, especially since these were the best LCDs on the market. So the 8000s and 8500s are no more. I guess we really WILL have to wait on the new Samsung TVs to come out later this year.
And since I haven't seen these posted anywhere, it seems a couple of places are picking up the following item numbers with xx representing screen size up to 65 to represent the TVs: UNxxC9000 (thin model everyone is crazy about, brushed steel) UNxxC8000 (not as thin, but still thinner than last year's LED tvs, brushed steel) UNxxC7000 (not thin, black) Last edited by Memnoch; 01-14-2010 at 03:39 PM. |

Never buy Samsung. Many if not all of their LCD TV's have faulty capacitors or power supplies. My TV began to have a power cycling power problem and now it won't turn on at all. It did this 10 days out of warranty and they said too bad so sad. The good thing is that Samsung has a class action lawsuit against and I'm part of it. They refuse to acknowledge that their TV's are defective because they use 10V capacitors for 9V board. Cheap bastards. Check this site and tell me you still want to buy a Samsung TV. I will never ever buy another Samsung TV again. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/home_...amsung_tv.html.

I can understand why you are upset, but tone it down a little. Just because your ONE Samsung broke, doesn't mean they all suck. That is like saying that if one Xbox breaks, then they all ... oh. Or if one Toyota gas pedal sticks ... oh. My bad. Continue with your rant.
I haven't had a single issue with my Samsung, and there are probably lots of other people that haven't either. Sorry to hear you got a lemon, but that is all it was. If Samsung won't help you out, and where you bought it from (you didn't happen to purchase an extended warranty did you?) won't help out, try your insurance company. I've heard of guys spending lots of money on TVs and getting their insurance company to reimburse them when the TV breaks out of the blue. Might want to look into that. Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but your one Samsung is no reason to go around bashing Samsung. Every company produces lemons. So are just a few TVs in a single line, some affect multiple lines, some companies produce lots of TVs that suck. But eventually, they either fix the problem or go out of business. Samsung is still trucking along, so the percentage of lemons must be pretty low compared to the amount of TVs sold. So I wouldn't be too worried about purchasing a new Samsung. |
