It is just as reasonable to assume that the DVD was over-zealously cropped. I'm not saying Arrow's is correct or not. Too little is known to make that judgement. |

while that is true, the DVD presentation could mimic the intention of what was supposed to be seen in the frame, the same way some films are (or were) shot open matte, then matted for theatrical exhibition.

Watched the first movie last night. Very nice picture. The 5.1 mix sounded a bit echoey though, so I switched to the mono, which sounded more natural.

Maybe I am just more tolerant of error as I come from the vhs, tracking out, fuzzy picture era. Never thought there would come a day were I owned Ferox, Nekro, Zombie etc on two and three disc special edition sets. |

Actually prefer to see the wider frame of everything that was filmed, arms, end of sets, warts etc (kept the Friends hdtv caps for exactly the same reason), doesn't bother me in the slightest and just see it as inherent to the low budget origins of the movie. Certainly prefer it to some of these transfers that are cropped beyond where they should be. On the other hand even if I wasn't happy, would just do my own custom crop on pc and create my own personal copy. Keep up the good work Arrow.

Could someone, in basic terms, explain what process has happened to cause this 'misframing'. I don't delve deeply into the tech side of home video. Is this caused by encode, remastering or something else?
I ask mainly because soooo many just have major quivers when Arrow are to release something stating that without doubt Arrows presentation will be supreme. Most recent is the Phantasm set. Just interested to know as many are stating (without seeing it compared to the US releases) that Arrows will obviously be amazing.....is it possible that set could face these framing issues?? |

It's *not* a big deal for some people (Haven't seen Arrow's Hellraiser 3 so can't comment on that). People are different and have different opinions. That's life. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk |

In the case of Phantasm, it will use the same master as Well-Go but Arrow's will have a superior encode to disc which they are masters at.

I'm just saying the whole "man why do people care" thing is tiring. We care because framing in movies is important. That's why they hire cinematographers. It's a critical aspect of the movie art form, so of course people are going to be made when it's screwed up on home video. |

So framing has nothing to do with encoding? As little as I know I thought encoding was transferring information from one source to another format, am I wrong?
