Guys,

I'm a huge Blu-ray fan. You only have to go over to thedvdforums.com to see me taking on a whole host of HD-DVD fanbois who continue to try to cling to the delusion that HD-DVD is somehow better and that Blu-ray's superior storage capacity, bandwidth, etc..., don't matter. (grrrr!)

That said, I've been following the DTHD thread and found it very interesting. Indeed it is a pity it's ended up in getting closed after a slanging match broke out. But I have to say that I think Steeb has been harshly treated, and certainly calling him a troll is way off beam (and is the sort of behaviour I get meeted out to me from HD-DVD fanbois on thedvdforums all the time).

I think people have misunderstood him. People are hearing him say that DTHD is superior to PCM - and this gets the heckles up as it appears to pander to the HD-DVD brigade who need to clamp down on disc space usage. However, what he was actually saying is that 24bit sound is better than 16bit sound in the event that the 24-bit sound is encoded losslessly. You can't really argue with that provided (though you can dispute whether the sound track encoding has been performed losslessly on any individual case), provided that the speed decryption process doesn't drop below the bandwidth of the soundtrack.

Remember, none of this detracts from the fact that whether you're using 16-bit PCM or 20/24 bit DTHD, Blu-ray can get 33% more of it on a disc than HD-DVD can.

So come on guys, if we chase away people like Steeb and close down threads where he posts this kind of stuff, then we make ourselves no better than the fanboi s' on AVSforum.com & thedvdforums.com, and we are normally way better than that. As Blu-ray fans, we hold all the technical aces, so lets not be overly defensive eh?

I am gonna go out on a limb here and say it was mostly due to swearing that he was banned...

I must admit that I didn't notice the swearing, but I'll take your word for it.

Yes, if he started doing that then there's no excuse. However, I think many of us might blow a fuse when under the heat that he was getting - (and which he really shouldn't have been getting). I really don't think he deserves this, but I guess the thread is still there for others to read and make up their own minds.

Pity though, for me, this place has lost something today.

Steeb was banned for constant bickering with other members, at least I think. I have seen many fights with him and other people.

Maybe there is a history there that I don't know about. But I can't see what he's done wrong here.

I remember last week, someone posted a thread titled "Why Does Steeb Hate Me", it got removed, but this shows that he has never been liked here.

Then you need to get your eyes checked. You need go no further than the first, most recent page of his post history to see repeated insults, personal attacks, and something that was typical of him and is abroad: He's always right. Everyone else is always wrong.

Life's too short. I say: Good riddance. I'm amazed he lasted as long as he did, quite frankly.

He's got quite a number of locked and deleted threads at AVS to his credit, and that's not a good thing, either.

he bickers endlessly and when the argument is all but over, he breathes life back into it...

he breeds negativity to a point where he is a complete nuisance rather than a blu-ray.com forum personality...
